Isnt this the basis for Aquaponics, plants filtering the water for the fish etc?

Anyone use these? I was think of using them to plant emersed plants in my sump; this way I won't worry about them getting submerged.

Hey guys I wanted to visit this again. I tried it a few years ago and while I think it worked well the roots of my English Ivy would rot under water and make a mess. I'm assuming you need to cut the roots back?

Anyone use a separate growing container for the plants in the sump? Like an external refugium? I'd like to keep the plants out of the main sump.
Why don't you guys use floating plants like Water hyacinth and Water lettuce? They're both use in waste water management.

These plants need very high light or direct sunlight.

because my fish would eat the roots, and supplying additional light underneath the container that already sits on top of the tank would be to much work. Make the wallet heavier not lighter!
