Wood is not a necessity (as for as eating) but they do prefer it to rockwork, and hiding places are preferred.
They can be territorial towards other nocturnal species. So if you wake up in the morning and see some damage the likely culprit will be one of the other plecos.
Not good algae eaters as their preferred diet would suggest.
What size are they and do you just have singles of each species?
