Instead of doing an aquarium specific search do a grow light search. They are much cheaper than aquarium lights and are better IMO. I picked up an 8bulb t5 with plant specific bulbs for less than 200....shipped

thanks mate, i actually just got another tank yesterday so i am on the look of the lights again. I am going to go search for some grow lights on ebay now, i think i have a grow light atm actually. it was a t5 fixture from bunnings with two 26w t5 bulbs

I'm buying a 2x1x1 ft tank later today and planning to keep a couple of dwarf snakeheads. Is it okay to just grab sand by the beach and use it as substrate? And would undergravel filter systems still work? And what's a good type of plant to use that would eventually grow to cover the entire bottom of the tank, something like carpet grass.

OK, my 4 day old attempt at a low tech Nano setup (maybe?). 6g, 3 white led's and 3 blue. 7 Endlers livebearers and 1 nickel sized Angel squatting in here untill he/she is big enough to go into the community tank.

Here is my first swing at a planted tank. It's a 36 bow front. No fish yet(I'm waiting on delivery of a real filter for it), but I've got 3 Blue German Rams to put in, and I'm planning on some Tetras and/or Danios; something small and colorful that will school. I also want to put in some driftwood and hopefully get some moss growing on it. I will also put in some sort of fancy Pleco. A Gold Nugget, Green Phantom, or something along those lines. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
