why not just use hydro sponges?

With the power heads (Aquaclear) and intake of the filters, all I do is take a sponge and rip off what I need to block the whole. I'd do that with the Maxi jet as well... just take a block of foam and pick out a hole with my fingers to make it fit nicely over the intake. Have no idea how I could do something like that with the Koralia. So my only option is to go with a conventional power head type of pump and out of those options it sounds like Maxi jet is the way to go.

I dont know why but my aquaclear produces this little rattling I can even hear outside of the tank. The maxi jet shouldnt do this right?

Try jamming some chapstick on the inner rod of your powerheads impeller works like a charm This will quuiiet things down abit

Really? Wouldn't that leach into the water?

I figured out what was causing all the rucuss. I had just recently took the filtering cartridge off and replaced it with that black cone thing that comes with the aquaclear. BUT when I changed it out I shoved sponge into the black part to keep it from sucking up babies. I guess I shoved too much sponge in there and it was like it was clogged, not pumping out much water and making a whole lot of noise.

My solution... I took the power head by itself and placed it on a little block of foam that I cut. Now the power head sits on the block of foam, makes ALOT less noise and won't be sucking up any babies.

What I did notice was that it seems to be sending vibrations through my whole tank or something. The tank is actually quieter with the cabinet doors open. I forget the maker of my cabinet but its the kind where you push the door in to pop it open and is held shut with magnets. Has anyone else ever experienced this?
