Awesome vid and explanation Energy!
Love that tank!....or tanks now.
Awesome pearl as well!

Stan, what kind of flowrate are you running through that system? What kind of pumps? (air and water) Doesn't look like a very high turnover.....

That Pearl is friggin outstanding. :)

Here is a quick video I shot-shows the reactor and the rest of the filtration. I took the time to explain it a little better.

Great video post and breakdown of the components.

For those who dont know what "mature" K1 should look like when the thin film has developed Energys reactor is a great example.

Not my pictures but to help others visualize what mature media should look like.

Mature media (this would be what to shoot for)

I can't remember if you said somewhere Energy, but how much media is that ?? Or do you have a guess?

Yes- great example- and pictures- I can't tell you how many people walk into my fish room and ask- "Why are you boiling noodles?" The mature k-1 color should match a cooked noodle exactly. If the video doesn't show it my reactor is really moving the media- the water going into it is not really prefiltered- yet I keep the flow and air up so high that detritus can not collect on the media or inside the chamber. The entire reactor rocks slightly from the amount of air pumping into it. I think the feed pump is a mag 9? and the air pump is an Alita 80?

Around 3 c.f. or so.

How many gallons total are you at? Turnover's gotta be around 1X per hour or 2? :WHOA:

I remember when people would toss you under the bus for having anything less then 10X/hour.......

I'd never run unfiltered water into my moving bed, and I have 3K gph crashing down on each reactor and an airpump that puts out almost double (but that's just me)

What does this all mean?

More then 1 way to skin a cat, (skin meaning build, cat meaning filter) and obviously going outside the "norm" definetely doesn't mean it won't work.

Thanks for the details Stan! Definetly makes a guy reconsider a lot of things.

I cant wait for my media to get here, Do most people have the air/water jet in the center of the container or on the edge??
