is this stuff thin enough to use in a spray gun?
Oh yeah. They even have instructions for using a sprayer in the box. The sprayer was one tool I did not have sadly. I would have liked to use one though because I feel I would have gotten much better coverage and more mileage, besides the fact that it's faster and easier.

Nice progress. Looks like a pretty good job, although I would have fiberglassed the corners before coating. I would worry that the silicone would not hold up. the fiberglass also help reinforce the corners as well as seal the tank.

I was actually going to use seam tape. It was an omission. The project is just to see if the "cheaper" potable water epoxy will work. The tank is dedicated to using experimental items. It's a small project thus the idea of failure is not such a big deal. Since most members here are investing a lot of their time and money into their projects I'd like to be able to test things so that others don't have to. I should have really addressed that though from the beginning. Dr Joe was kind of an inspiration for the Test Project in that in the thread discussing roof sealers I had volunteered to put my money where my mouth was. Joe was excited about the fact that someone was willing to do that. Thus this project is born. Experiments with educated decisions.

The next part of the project will be to create a background. I am thinking of using Polystyrene. I plan to make a layout of what I want using real rock or possibly clay, using a heat gun to melt the polystyrene to the form. From there I'll either use the polystyrene as is or use it as a form to cast from. that's idea number 1, idea 2 is to create a background out of Home-Made PlayDoh. You know the kind we all played with as kids. I figure I can let it dry and seal it with a clear epoxy.

Taking votes and suggestions.

Or possibly seal it with "The Amazing Tile DOC in a Box" !! :D

Most EXCELLENT article/project, great craftsmanship (and using readily available hand tools), great pix and explanations.

And the use of that single empty beer bottle that you got from the recycling bin to show the relative size of the project was pure genius. (yea, that's it, uhuh)

I see alot of DIY projects available to this.

Keep up the good work all the way around.

(and if you need me to call your work to get you suspended for a few weeks so you have more time for the project just say the word :D).

I like the playdoh idea.. only thing i could think of that would be a prob (maybe) is the weight of it when it is in a vertical position and might want to stress the epoxy over time.. but you could make any shape so easy with it..

The polystyrene is good one too.. I use that stuff in my Brew ( fermenting) room to keep things cool.. :D

Keep it up man.!!

the best part about the home-made playdoh is that it can be dryed and or baked. I doubt I will bake the playdoh. I think I'll make it laying flat. let it dry, paint it up, then seal it. Might even add platiclatch hook cards to make the forms for the playdoh to scult around.. would make for a very easy way to create interesting caves etc..
