Good Job.

I would like to know how flexable that stuff is. If its not flexable enough and the wood bows from the water pressure, you will get small microcracks that could leak.

This makes me nervous;
The epoxy is meant to mimic tile or porcelain when dry
Both very britle

this stuff is super thin and watery when mixed.
Then again, when the wood soaks this stuff up, is this going to help. We'll see I guess, I don't think it will.

Also, I don't see anywhere the epoxy says, "Wood".

The thing is, I wouldn't want to have to drain the tank ever few months to every year is its not holding up very well to seal the tank again.

Well I had seriously thought about a decor idea. fill a six pack of bottles with water, reseal. Epoxy seal the cardboard box and viola... lol.. My friend said that since it was part of the build it must be a part of teh decor one way or the other..

The instructions are for applying to plywood or fiberboard to mimmick and seal in bathrooms and kitchens. And yes, I think it may be brittle. I don't expect much tank flex since this is only a 100 with 2 cross beams. If it leaks, it just serves as proof of a bad product to use. I don't have worries because the tank is here to test new ideas.. not to be a showpiece. My showpiece will be a collection of the best ideas from everywhere.. till then I will be looking for new ideas.

Surprised there are no more comments on the ideas for playdoh. I am also open to suggestions for things to test with this tank. Please give em to me.. we'll discuss them and choose which ones to follow.

These instructions were on the container? When this is used, its being used on ceramic or porclin fixtures, I do believe. Things they do not flex at all.

It may only take 100ths of an inch to crack this stuff. Even with two braces, im sure there will be some flex that may or may not be noticable. Either way, we won't know till its done. Keep up the excellent work! If you know someone with an x-ray machine, that would be best to check for microfractures in the epoxy.

This is good. I would hate for you to set it up and have it leak everywhere. This test will have to be about a year long to get a good idea on how well it will function.

It's not meant as a patch type of deal. Btu shrug, if it works great if it fails oh well. We use a lot of other epoxies in this hobby.

Have you actually used this stuff before? it's used for repainting things like Tubs (which I'm not sure if you've ever noticed but they do flex)

see the above statement and I'd just like to add :screwy: since DUH EVERYONE knows someone with a X-ray machine that can look at that high of a resolution... you can pick that up at Toy-r-Us right?

I'm sure he'll do it as long as it works and report back any problems... kind of the point of a test ... isn't it?

How's your sump calculator coming?... :grinno:

Rivermud... I'm sure you must have checked on the tank again... did it dry up yet?

Actually we had a death in the family. Well not mine but my friends who was so generous as to offer his shop for the project. Thus I've been respectful and backed away from working with the tank for a bit. I'll be headed back that direction Wednesday after work and will continue to work on the build.

I've not used the epoxy before but it's description in the box talks about it's application. I specifically meantions applying it to surfaces other than procelain or tile. But, like I said, it's an experiment. I'm doing it because to often we debate the merits of a product without any experience with said product. Why not develop the experience for the hobby. I plan to do with with most everything.
