the "red tail" doesnt come in till later about 8 to 14 inches. mines almost 8 inch and still doesnt have it. just depends of the cat. in some case the dont really get the red just a dark yellow orange

yeh dont worry it will turn red with age. the diet you are feeding is perfect.

thats normal behaviour for shovelnose catfish. the red tail must just be copying his friend...nothing to worry about as long as they are eating and growing!

Sorry for the late reply, but thank you necrocanis! I did read your reply a long time ago, I just went and did more research to what you said, which was really helpful - thank you! I did ask my friend, he said it cost that much because he already had most of the supplies anyway from other projects. I do not think you were trying to turn me away from RTCs, but you did actually end up doing that :) I talked about it with my husband, very seriously, about feeding costs and what not and in end, we decided against it. It was practically the same price as caring for new born twins lol But I had a burning passion for catfishes and was thriving to find one for me, and my research had brought me back to my original dream kitty, the Channel Catfish. Not as gorgeous as an RTC, but most people say that its a good one to begin monster fish keeping. The growth rate suits our needs better, being a slow grower. I'm right, right? Well, I'll be asking questions in the proper section :) Thanks again for your help :D
