should i euthanize my fish

i have a parrot fish beaten almost to death. his skin and scales are all gone. chunk of meat missing from his stomach area and skin flaps hanging out. rib bones exposed. he just sits in my net because all my fish peck at him. and he cant swim down anymore.

hes been alive for 1 week just living. i dont want to nurse him anymore. doesnt eat. maybe a few flakes when he can. hes gonna die from hunger sooner or later. should i just get rid of him myself? maybe keep him above water for 10 mins?

this guys in a near death condition but wont die.

i'm usually all about keeping things alive, but it sounds like it is suffering. Please find a more humane way of putting it out of its misery, as i'm sure not being able to breathe is not a pleasant way to go.

i would try to save it if you think its worth it its going to be very susseptible to infection so you know so i would put it in a hospital tank if you have one

If you decide to kill it don't hold it out of water thats no way to die if you can get clove oil put some of that in with a little water and let it go to sleep then do what you wish with it or put it in a little tub with 1/2 water and 1/2 alcohol like vodka or something rubbing alcohol will work fine to wait like 10-15 mins for both and the deed will be done

I have always just heard to put it in a freezer bag and but him in the freezer the rapid temp change should do the job pretty quick

the most human way is to OD him on Clove Oil, put him in a bucket and and start dripping clove oil in the bucket he will slowly fall a sleep then add some more until it stops breathing. there is no need to add vodka like some people might say that is just cruel...

I think it is time to euthanize him, he is probably in a lot of pain. I believe clove oil is the most humane way as others have described. If you don't have access to clove oil, I think the next best thing is to put it in a bowl of VERY cold, as close to being frozen without being frozen, water, and it is an instant death. If you put it in a bag in the freezer, it will freeze to death slowly as the temp of the bag gradually changes, as opposed to the instant death in clove oil or ice water.

Taking it out of water so it can't breathe is no way to kill it. Besides, I've heard of people finding their fish on the floor, dried up, after almost an hour, and they put it back in the tank and it survived. So I doubt it would be dead after just 10 mins out of water anyway.

i think you need to euthanize him if he is that bad, there is no need to make him suffer. use some clove oil, its the most humane way..

fish dont die even after 10 minutes outside of the water i had to walk home from the lake once a fifteen minute walk in 90 degree weather and had some bluiegill on the stringer and hen i stuck it in water to rinse off the dirt it was still alive.

I've read that you can whack them on the head, or chop their head off. Thats probably very hard to do for most people though (I sure couldn't chop my fish's head off) and easy to mess up. Clove oil is definitely the best. After you think it is dead, you can do whatever with it to make sure it is really dead.
