My group of Menarambo, along with a quad of Geo. sp. Red Head Tapajos
Can't help but love 'em. RThey aren't pretty, and are too big for any tank i have, but the way they swim is just incredible! They look just like pompano do in public aquaria.
Absolutely remarkable!!! 5 Star Generals are so freakin cool! But am I the only one that finds odd not a single Tilapia Buttrikofferi yet?
That's because 90% of people on mfk think they come from Mexico. You'll find them in the CA section :p :)

Africans are cool. An importer buddy of mine gets wild caught pelvachromis once a year but upwards of $15 a fish is too much for me :(

This a pic from may. When he was around 5 inches or so. My favorite of them because of how he was flaring at my sister.
Awesome looking fish. Question..... I'm new to the Buttikoferi. Got (10) a few months ago at 1/2", down to (5) and they are now about 4". When do they start really getting the legendary aggression? They are nothing compared to my Flowerhorn and Trimacs..... Is it a size thing? 6-8" type thing?

Well it depends on the individual. I bought the smallest at the pet shop. He was beaten up, torn fins, a couple of scales missing. I had to get him. My butti was the smallest in the tank when I got him at around 1.5-2 inches. At 4 inches he was already challenging my male Texas for dominance. At 5-6 inches he was the boss of the tank. A couple days after he had my Texas pair restricted to a foot of territory at most and had 5 feet to himself. My Texas pair was beaten up, so I knew I had to do something. He's currently 7 inches in a 75 g with a couple of tetras and guppies and the famous aggression had finally started to kick in, trying to attack my hand through the glass and whatnot. For some of your butti it might come earlier or later.

I had a feeling that if I had bought the dominant butti in the pet shop he would've killed his tank mates in a couple of days.
