2 inch sounds a little big for a pump that size. The 2 4700 gph pumps I have are both 1.5.

A 2in bulkhead isn't that much bigger than a 1.5..... But I think you could probobly use 1.5 without losing much GPH.

Sockmounts....... Yup, Menards. Get a sheet of 1/4 in acrylic and cut 4 holes in it.... Bam sock mount. Use some 3/4 in pvc with threaded ends for legs. Cut holes in the sock mount plate and run the threaded PVC through them. That or glue strips to the sump walls to set the tray on. Or don't cut the tray except for the sock mount holes and build a little stand out of pvc to set the sock plate on.

Just keep in mind it HAS to be fairly simple to change the socks or it starts becoming dreadedly UN fun. Either the sock tray or the drain tubes will have to move. If the drains are stationary make the tray removable. If the tubes can come off then you could make the tray permenent. I brainstewed over this lil obstacle for many weeks. I ended up opting for securing the drain tubes permenently to a settling chamber then just put 4 bulkheads in the chamber wall dumping out into 4 socks. That way I could avoid trying to split the drains from 2-4 to hit all the socks. Got rid of alot of plumming, allowed everything to be permenent since the socks didn't have to be directly under the drains, making changing them really simple. PLUS if the settling chamber works right most of the heavy craap will sit in the chamber till a bottom drain valve is flipped.... NEVER even touching the filter socks.

Another option would be to cut slits or holes in 4 in pvc and glue to the bottom of sump. Mount socks in the tubes.

I like your thinking. A settling chamber before the socks is an excellent idea.

I decided to go with a 2" bulkhead. Everything that I have read says that it is okay to restrict the flow on the output of the reeflow dart but that it should not be restricted on the input side. It seems to me that a 1 1/2" bulkhead would be restricting the flow so I don't want to risk it. I ordered the bit and the bulkhead from glass-holes today.

I will order the glass baffles just as soon as I can get someone to measure the inside dimensions of a perfecto 75.

Why don't you just put the pump inside the sump? I must have missed that part.

It seems like the easiest solution.

The reeflo dart pump that I ordered is not submersible.

Thought I had already posted the newest update, apparently I didn't though. Anyway, here it is. Only thing is that it won't be completely full of scrubbies. I ordered enough for the 55 gallon sump so I will come up short. I ordered five gallons of bioballs to make up the difference. I plan on putting them on top of the scrubbies.

I would put a ball valve in the sock chamber. This way when you swap the socks you don't blast the bio with shibby. Swap socks and empty that stuff.

Only other thing I would change is the 8 inches of wasted space right befor the pump. If you're allready pressed for room for bio, no sense in wasting space.

Bio balls on the pot scrubbies is great, they work really well for holding the scrubbies down without scrunching them.

Thank you. It's an honor to hear something like this from you....

I have spent a VERY long time wondering why these aren't utalized more in our trade. The koi guys have been using them for years and when researching filtration for my pond it seemed like this would be a no brainer on EVERY filtration system. Why not remove the poo BEFORE it ever even contacts ANY media.......

Thanks for the advice. I'll move it over a couple of inches. I want to leave room in there for the heaters and possibly a pump for the UV if I don't end up using some of the flow from the dart for it.

I just ordered my glass baffles. I ordered one 17 3/8 x 17", one 17 3/8 x 15, and one 17 3/8 x 4".

Just out of curiosity, does your screen name "DB Junkie" with spl competitions?

Yes. DB drag.... Was a top contender in Super Street No Wall. Started in 03 running for MTXs "Team Thunderforce" after MTX ceased sponsorships I hooked up with Soundstream and a good friend (the ceo) T3 Audio. Retired after winning World Championship in 06 then getting screwed by Soundstream immediately after....... It took 132 batteries, 60,000 watts and a steel enclosure to get that title. I ate, slept, dreamed, and breathed spl for 4 years..... And still to this day am a recovering SPL addict.
