Super Red and Chilli Red

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
last time iv been to southern china it was pretty hot(1 year ago)

Hao - i really dont know if they breed aros in China. Just a guess. I've seen some Chilli Reds at my LFS at about 20cms. Their scales do show some red, but im guessing they are the top grade ones because they are asking almost AUD$7K for it.

Super Red is just a term for Grade 1 Red. There was originally the Chili (or sometimes Chilli with 2 l's) and the Blood Reds. But imo, I don't think any farms carry a Pure-Blood Red anymore. Aros (RTGs, XBs or Reds) have been hand selected and bred over years so that hobbyists can get the popular characteristics (long finnage, spoon head, diamond tail, ...), hence why there is no Pure-Blood Type anymore.

People believe that some "breed" like the Violet Fusions are more red. But the fact is, Violet Fusions are just Grade 1 Reds that have been hand selected at a young age and classified or qualified as Violet Fusion. That is why Reds under the "breed" of Violet Fusion tend to be more red, or at least seem to have more potential, than the "no name" Super Red.

oh i see,wow true bloods are gone?

Depend on the quality, farm and the LFS they end up to.
oh i see

well to be honest am not an expert but often see these in stores here - most keepers can only tell you if it is super red high grade if they know where it came from and the fish has papers.

without historical information (papers) and a trusted source (legal farm), its almost impossible to distinguish between 2nd class red and other classes of arowana. have seen several low grade reds and super reds whilst young and they look the same to me. they have a big difference in price when you ask the shop owner though. :-)

you mean there certificate?

let me state my opinions

chili red and blood red are different

cant remember the exact traits

but one is longer than the other one is deep red than the other the other is more more orange red

one has larger fins than the other with a different tail shape 1 pear shape the other fan shape

chili and blood red originally came from different locations

what has happened is the farms have thrown loads of chili and blood reds into the same ponds meaning they cant say 100% if they are from chili or blood parents so now they just call them super red

a true chili or blood red will be of better grade than the normal super red as they should be a better strain

all that said names mean nothing you look at the fish you like you buy if not walk away who cares what it says on the cert
