The real skinny on fish food..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes, even the high quality dog food brands are fairly high in lipid content, as fat is the main source of energy for dogs. The problem isn't just the level of fat, it's the TYPE of fat found in cat & dog foods that can cause long term health issues in fish.

I have seen people (friends of the family) live solely on fast food for 40-50 years (or so they claim). They never eat vegetables or fruits. Everything is meat, cheese or bread. Are they getting a balanced diet? Sure, they are still alive, but they are a)fat, b) diabetic and c) they have bad skin. I am sure they will die as complications to their eating habits (he has already had one heart attack). How will we ever know how long they could have lived if they ate well? We will never know.
Basically, the same goes for your fish. If you feed them well, they will live longer. I feed my fish Hikari, freeze dried foods and market fish/shrimp. My goal is to have my fish (at least some of them) outlive me and plague my wife when I die.

Ugh after investigating what really goes into dogfood i was throughly disgusted..

This link hurt my brain.

HBH, Wardleys, Tetramin = All Garbage

Frozen Foods = Garbage.

Frozen foods lose 90% of their nutrition during processing. Also, most nutrient/vitamins are water soluble, and they lose their nutrition during the first few seconds in the tank. Also they are mostly moisture content.. if anything they are good for protein sources and enticing new tank inhabitants. Flakes are also garbage. They lose their nutrition very fast and most of them suck in the first place, if anything 'Crisps' would be way better.
And what data do you have to back this up?

I started my Malawi Peacocks fry on NLS Grow, and South American/ African cichlids on NLS Thera A+A 6mm pellets 3 weeks ago and they love it. When you compare the Hikari Gold and Thera A+A pellets you notice how much more content of food is in the Thera A+A pellet. I recommend anyone who hasn't tried NLS to do so. GREAT PRODUCT! :D
