Topaz Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Buffalo is a good option. Kind of an oddball and not that mean.
I wouldn’t worry about abf aggression, they don’t really leave the top area and are rather skittish.

I apologize for my rudeness. Do you think it is better to not have a cichlid, for fear of being overstocked, or to have a cichlid?
I think one medium sized cichlid wouldn’t be a problem. Or a couple of dwarf cichlids, but anything slow and under 3 inches is in the bichir’s easy meal range.

Ok. I usually end up doing 70% water changes, just because Sparky is in the tank, and I want to get rid of the gad damn algae. Would it be wise to get 1 Buffalo Head, or multiple? And what gender?

The Topaz cichlid name is a bit nebulous, there are probably 2 or 3 cichlids dubbed that name.
If you mean Amatitlania myrnae, they are below

Being a Central American (Costa Rica) they are adapted to harder, higher pH (none acidic) water.
I kept mine in a 75 gal tank, with geographically correct sword tails as dithers, and they spawned in pH 7.8 water, 250 ppm Total Hardness, temps mid 70sF.
Below the female with fry.

The male hit about 6-7", females half that.
