What is your favorite? South American, or Central?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
South Americans for me.
Oscars (Yeah yeah shoot me) are my favourite, but are being challenged by my group of Geo's i have in the new setup that are growing out. Satanoperca Leuco, Geo Alto Sinu, Gymno Balzanni, Geo Red Head Tapajos ... and cant forget the Rotkeil Severums, something about the shape and colour of these made them a bucket list fish to keep and grow out ... even the Festivum and Araca variants, just all sure fire stunners. And, as others have touched on, all these beautiful species (likely) coexist in a community setup. My opinion anyway!

Central Americans for me. Love the dovii, managuensis, and all parachromis, Viejas, etc.... only fish I like from south American is the green terrors and fire mouths.

Firemouths are central as well.

Technically speaking, FMs are North American, being from Mexico, Belize, and Guatamala.

Hard to say the true red terror aka festae got me into this hobby at the time I still lived with my parents and had the opportunity to have a 210 gallon tank witch I kept a pair. That was many years ago now my biggest tank is a 75 and a few smaller tanks so I now have fallen for fancy pleco's and apistogramma. I have kept a number of CA over the years and at the moment I have a EBJD witch I'm having good luck with finally.

I have never, ever seen a red Festae in person in my life... They always been darker color, like a convict, and that drives me nuts.

I like both, but keep South Americans now as I have very soft water.

They are usually not colored up when in the shop. Those colors are insane once happy though. Bucket list fish for sure.
