I already posted about this in the native fish section, but I've reduced the size of the pics.

These are from today. Please note the tail hanging out of the RTC mouth. That's an 8" large mouth bass I caught today, hoping to give my other bass a buddy. Instead, my RTC got a meal.

He's about 14-15" long now, at about a year old. He just ate my 4 year old Pleco a few weeks ago, but he leaves two green sunfish alone, even though they are much smaller than the bass.

The tiger shovelnose is a little older, and maybe an inch longer, but not near as big a pig.

I had to move him to get one pic. These two cats like to sit next to each other, unless it's feeding time. The RTC will eat from my hand, be it live or dead feeders, frozen shrimp, as well as sinking and floating pellets and algae discs. The only thing he barfs up are crawfish claws.

That seems like a really slow growth rate for a rtc.....
what are you feeding him?

Not slow at all ;) Its just that most people power feed the crap out of their RTC's trying to grow a 3 footer in a year. Not only is his RTC beautifully colored and healthy looking he'll probably live longer too.

Nice Cats

I put in 2-4 dozen large goldfish, usually once a week, sometimes twice. In season, I catch green sunfish and toss them in. The two largest ones have survived most of this year, but they see him coming and move.

He also eats shrimp, pellets, and algae discs (I don't know why, I was feeding a Pleco, and he came up and gobbled them up as fast as I dropped them in). When I catch some crawfish, I put them in there, and he eats them.

Other than a two week vacation, he hasn't missed a meal.

Thank you! My LFS that I go to is run by a family of enthusiasts, and they've coached me on feeding at length. He gets enough, I'm told. I've actually reduced the weekly feedings, every other week, varying the amount, because they said that was better than letting him eat all he wants.

I didn't intend for him to get an 8" bass today, but he had other ideas. :naughty:

this would be my 22" wallago attu after eating a 10" aro.:irked::irked::irked: Unfortunate circumstances lead to my unfortunately having to put my jar in with this monster.
