Correct. F2 would be a spawn from F1 parents. F3 wold be a spawn from F2 parents etc.

So F1, F2, F3, etc are all from F0, right?

I prefer F0 for breeding stock. No concern at all what generation I have if there are no plans for a spawn. Wild caught fish can be problematic and are usually messed up on some level until conditioned under quarantine.

F1 would need WC parents. F2 would be spawn of the 1st generation of captive bred offspring.

I guess I can understand why call the spawn of the WC, F1, but then why even say F2 if at that point, wouldn't they just be considered captive bred?

Sometimes wc can be better like the wild red snooks but cb can be better.

Yes they would, but it's a good thing to know what generaton you have for referencing the characteristics of your fish. Technically, no two are alike. This is especially important to those who line breed their fish to achieve so-called 'desired traits'.

Depends on species, but usually:

Wild ones more colorfully and imo just cooler. But, do not fare as well in captivity. But we should try to buy captive bred...we don't want our lovely fish to go extinct, now do we?

Wild caught all the way. they have more natural instincts and they act more like they would in the wild not to mention that they are prettier and cheaper.

^^ Basically, also remember fish can develop undesirable traits after so many breedings in the same gene pool.. Like frontosa that have 6 stripes on one side and 7 stripes on the other. And other genetic defects you can get from captive breeding with no new blood over so many generations. So it is important to specify truthfully whether f1, f2, etc as IMO it makes a difference.

That said in most species like pbass I do prefer the wild counterpart. But then in some species it does not matter.
