I'm with ya on that cichla. I don't like going into F2 zone with my fish breeding. I'd rather find some new blood for F1s.

It all depends on the fish. Betta for example. Captive all the way. The wild caught are generally drap and dull. Compare a Percula clown wild and captive. There really is no comparison. The wild is stunning. The captive on the other hand is pretty colorless imo. Of course this is all opinion.

some cases I think WC looks better

a lot of times though, people just want WC bc they are rarer so they can post "I got a F0 insert fish today!!!!!" on fish boards

:iagree:

Unless F0 has some morphological difference that is developed in the wild (e.g. big lips from sucking on rocks), F1 is the same...only healthier.

I need someone to explain how F1 is somehow less "pure" than F0.

Wild caught all the way. they have more natural instincts and they act more like they would in the wild not to mention that they are prettier and cheaper.

Mature WC fish exhibit natural instincts like freaking out whenever approached by big predators (i.e. the person who put them in a glass box.) My experience is that WC fry adapt better to captivity.

Mature F1 fish are nearly always as colorful or more colorful than wild caught fish (even after the wild caught finish recovering from quarantine). Well-cared for F1 fish haven't had all of the trauma, damage, etc. that is part of being in the wild.

Please explain how WC are cheaper than F1. I don't follow.

My question is this.........How do you prove you have a WC vs a F1 or F2? You can't. It all has to be a trust issue.

What would you consider if line breeding was induced. Like Father and Daughter? F0 with F1? Anyone tried this yet or does it not work with some species like Cichlids?

Yes - lots of cichlids (like peacocks) are line bred by mating related fish with desirable characteristics (e.g. lots of red color).

Fish are line bred to have better color, size, etc. than wild ones.

wild cuaght does sound more exotic than captive bred.. but i think ill pick captive bred cuz they are more used to the artificial enviroment, which should make them more hardier in an aqurium? as oppose to the wild cuaght ones.. =X_x= I Love my Tank MAde Nemo Fish =^___^=
