Worm pic, very clear

wow great pics

I'm pretty sure salt baths or parasite meds will cure it

Those are the worms that often come with wild caught bichirs right i see little worms like that on bichirs from time to time , sort of common unless thats a different worm

Macrogyrodactylus simentiensis are Monogenetic trematodes(skin and gill flukes)
any of the meds listed should be able to eliminate the problem.
parasite guard
parasite cure
Prazi pro
Formalin
Metronidazole (Flagyl)-Anne

I used Prasi pro when I noticed some on my newer Ropefish and it worked like a charm. Thanks to Anne and Uwe I kinda knew what to do when I noticed them.

Those are very tiny little things around 1~3mm. Investigate carefully for the new bought fish (especially bichirs) to prevent those. Those spread very fast, all members in the tank got the worm on their body in 3 days. I used local medicine to treat the bichirs. Since there were white patches already, I used anti-worm, anti-bacteria (both BIO), and salt to treat them. Though the manual said 3 days treatment should be enough, I treat them 5 days just in case there were few remains. A friend of mine who are doing research on bichirs had experienced once the remains spread again, the same medication might not work. Those worms adapt to the medicine fast.

Dang! Make me wonder if this is the cause of death on my Teugelsi. Some scale area on them lost the color like that, and I thought they looked like that because they're death
Did you treat them usuing Parasite Clear? I take no chances, I treat any new bichir in a bath of Parasite Clear before placing them into my big tank. I have stocked up 6 packs of these from Walmart. They worked great!!! The last two I got from you were treated too.

Damn, we should've told John about these when he ordered polys!

Both Joe and myself have had these. They are common on wild caught polypterus.

We trated with Jungle Labs: Parasite Clear, you can buy it at wal mart and some pet stores, and it worked great.

Joe lost some biiig albinos to these damn things. I lost a congicus. :(

Dayum, I'm spoiled. I used to buy Polyterus from Rich, and he always treats anything he brought in with Prazi Pro, so I was off-guard :irked: That means the punctured on my first Teugelsi neck from the Armatus could be postmoterm, cuz the two tiny Senegal I got from Joe are still kicking and eating

I believed Toyin treats them as well before they're ship out. Honestly, I have no idea where my tank contracted these parasites from but I was glad I treated it ASAP after seeing these pictures. I did tell John about them but he was still too excited about his new bichir order. I cannot blame the guy because I was just as excited.:D

These parasites do not leave puncture wounds. You'll just see the slimecoat being eaten away when the fish is dead. Get a bright LED flashlight and inspect your fish. They can be easily treated if you catch it.

any meds containing copper will work.my lower jar bichir tank caught these bastards from a shipment of wild caught congicus and I used coppersafe and some salt and within a week they were gone.
