Worm pic, very clear

i just found this thread .. i have 5 poly's and thanks i will keep a sharp look out ....this scared the crap out of me. im now gonna go stare at my poly's and make sure they dont have worms.

Glad you did, this should be a sticky since it's something all polypterus owners should know about, especially those who order wild caught polys.

i think mine has this parasite, its a greyish white spot (blotchy, unlike the above photos) , its had the spot for a while and no other fish have anything like this...i cant get a close enough view to properly identify it

Macrogyrodactylus simentiensis are Monogenetic trematodes(skin and gill flukes)
any of the meds listed should be able to eliminate the problem.
parasite guard
parasite cure
Prazi pro
Formalin
Metronidazole (Flagyl)-Anne

seachems para guard is good for these as well :)

This can happen if the bichir scrapes it's slime coat off. Do you have any Plecos or something similar? They'll suck the slime coat off Bichirs and it will appear as a white/grey spot. Happened to my big Ornate a few years back.

any ideas what this might be?!

unfortunately i dont have a better camera, so this is the best pic i can make

i hope these are not THE worms :irked:

btw, this is a 110 l quarantine tank, and 4 ropes, 2 endlis, and 2 lapradeis are in it for 5 days so far

i examined others (with a LED flash light :D) and they seem clear

0.3–2 mm long hair like?
Jungle's "Parasite Guard" is now my anti-parasite med of choice for most bichirs....used at 3/4- ful dosage,it did a fantastic job of making parasites disappear for good, and did not harm my bichirs at all [note, this was used on adult and sub-adult bichirs, and has not been tested on babies....for babies, I have used a formalin solution ("Quick Cure") at full dosage with good results and no ill effects."Quick Cure", a formalin-based med works reasonably well at full dosage over a ten-day treatment, but I have been getting far quicker and better results with Jungle brand's "Parasite Guard" used at 3/4-full dosage for a single treatment

Im not sure whether these are worms or not. But I wont take any risks. Tahnks Anne, but we dont have Jungle's Parasite Guard around here. I will try with the 32 degrees warm up and "some" salt.

actually, how much teaspoons of salt per liter/gallon should I put?

Go the pet shop where you bught it and tell them you suspect your fish has skin flukes and ask what they recomend.Heat and salt contrary to popular belief is not a cure all
