  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
this is my 15th year keeping sharks/ reading about sharks/ speaking to shark keepers/ diving and snorkeling with sharks . i am no expert but it always amazes me when i come across experts at keeping sharks in home aquariums when they dont have a shark aquarium

I have a friend the is an expert at repairing all the high end sports cars but does'nt own one. There are alot of great white shark experts with out one in their pool/pond

Presently I don't have a shark tank - but I have had one in the past.

Just wondering, what sharks have you owned in the past or worked with?

Deano I don't think stopsharkfinning was saying you have to own a shark to be a expert but when someone is speaks the way KRJ does, owing a shark or having a job working with them everyday gives you way more credibility

Okay - first off _ I don't have a shark tank - right now - because I don't have the available space for one. Literally - my "fish room" is being used for storage.

Second - I've never said that I was an expert in keeping sharks. Because I'm not, by any means. I'm stilling constantly learning new things about sharks - but in the wild and captivity.

I've kept Bamboo, Coral Cat and a Nurse Shark in the past - but nothing like what you you have, Turbo. I've also observed wild Atlantic Sharpnose, Bonnetheads & Blacktips off the southeastern coast of N.C. And observed Sandtigers, Sandbars, Bonnetheads and Nurse sharks in captive at public aquariums in the Carolinas. BTW - I visit both the beach and public aquariums in NC fairly often.

And while nothing may beat actual hands on experience. I do feel that talking to several successful shark aquarists as well as the large amounts of research helps to feel in the gaps that may be missing from my limited personal experience with sharks in captivity.

Also just a thought - Wouldn't it be better to send a person a PM questioning their experience, than it is to basically take over another person's thread to do so publicly?

Ok maybe I should have shot you a PM and I am sorry if I torqued you up too much. The only reason I was calling you out publicly is because you seem to have no problem telling someone their tank is way too small or their just flat out wrong publicly.

Anyway I also think its great that you have experience with coral cats, bamboos and nurses. Plus it really nice that you have time to observe some of the local species to you in the wild. I mean if you are doing that, you should have some realyl good insight on the natural swim glide patterns in the wild and what it may take to get these guys to settle down after collection.

Trust me Ken I am not saying that I am better than you or anybody else on this board.(maybe luckier that I have the space and a wife who puts up with this shark and ray crap) I was just trying to find out some background on your info and didn't think much of asking publicly because you have never PMed me with any questions on what I was doing and always asked me questions publicly. This goes all the what back to when I first started posting on these boards ( 7 gill questions on SRC comes to mind)

Anyway lets move on from here peacefully.

I'm not sure if this was answered, but what will the footprint of the new tank be?
