YOUR LOCAL AQUARIUM CLUB

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
More benefits:
  • Shot your biofilter? Get seeded from a trusted source.
  • Your single fish + local member's single fish = awesome breeding pair
  • Make friends with a member and throw away your automatic vacation feeder that never worked anyway!
  • Short on QT space? You might be able to "rent" some.
  • Want to breed but no place to grow out fry? Another member might have an extra tank and split the offspring with you in exchange for its use.

Someone who should know once told me "The ACA is a drinking club with a fish problem."

Thanks for your support!!!

There could be many reasons it's not a sticky, but the most likely one is that I just started it about 12 hours ago, and it's just catching on.

Do you have a club? If not, can I find you one?

I'd like to keep it up until all the U.S. MFKers have a "home" that want one.

My area does have an aquarium club. And they have a web site, but nothing like this.
Theirs is so basic and archaic it's almost imposable to use. Or to ask questions and get an answer within a year. Was probably designed in the 80's and never reworked. There are no pictures or any image files. So people write a nice little essay about breeding whatever or a DIY project, but with no photo it's kinda lame. Reads more like a government survey. Super dull.
And when I get off work at 11pm all the fishy people here are fast asleep. So there is nothing close to live chat or just random conversation or sense of community. That site doesn't support it anyway.
I don't really know who put together MFK or why, or how they make a profit or keep it running.
I assume the MODS are all volunteer, as I have not been asked to pay a dime for all the information you have given me. Nor been bombarded by advertisements, not even one.
And while I sometimes feel stifled by all the rules, I have seen how quickly things get out of hand when no rules are enforced. I have found that here I can talk about some pretty controversial and emotional topics, so long as I do it with some degree of respect and watch my mouth.
This is by far the very bestest best fish site I have found. Ask any question anytime and get tonnes of good info, or just a wisecrack. I have only been here a short time but am getting to know some people. Sometimes through silly arguments, but at least I know you're out there.
And there is always something going on. New threads to skim through when I'm bored and waiting for something half interesting to come on T.V. So I'm always accidentally learning things I could have just googled, but would never have thought to google. I still don't know much. But most of what I know came from here. Or got me started so I'd know what I was looking for.
This is a very valuable resource for me. As I am kind of in the middle of nowhere.
If I mention tropical fish to whoever they say "Yeah, I had a gold fish 30 yrs ago." Which is nice for them, I guess. But useless for me.
So this is my aquarium club. And thanks for having me.
