All of our local hares are fully white now, and yesterday I was rummaging about in one of our outbuildings and was thrilled to see a snow-white Ermine. He was very bold and unafraid, literally running between my feet several times. Very exciting if you are into that sort of thing; I am! :)
Yes, I love wildlife interactions (except for dangerous animals, lol). Rabbits are some of my favorite animals other than fish. I've had one for 9 3/4 years. Next Easter will be his 10-year anniversary in our home.

Bold of you to assume there are non-dangerous animals - everything out there is out to get you, even a rabbit could figure something out lol
Impressive care with the rabbit - I honestly had no idea they could live that long!

Indeed. That Bugs Bunny dude is one clever varmint. Yosemite Sam and Elma Fudd will attest to that! They both get hoodwinked on a regular basis!

Yes, rabbits are great pets. Fluffy and cute, great for kids, with an added bonus that you can eat them too!! Yours is extremely old so not long to wait now, though it will be a little tough I suspect!

Excuse me, sir, how dare you assume that I would eat my precious child? <_< Our family doesn't eat rabbit, especially when there is other wonderful meat like bacon...pork....ham...sausage....beef....etc. LOL

The key is keeping them inside. We've never kept Elvis (the rabbit) outside but only for a few days, so he is never exposed to many of the parasites, pests, predators, etc. that cause rabbits to live a shortened lifespan. And the daily boofing doesn't hurt ;).

My apologies, it was indeed extremely remiss of me to suggest you may eat your beloved pet. How insensitive of me. What about skinning it and making a nice toasty hat instead, lol.

If animals weren't intended to be eaten...why are they made of meat?

Don't be narrow-minded, Esox. The two things are not mutually exclusive; he can do both! :)

Oh, by the way...who on earth is Elma Fudd?

S SilverArowanaBoi , don't be so sure about dangerous rabbits; they do exist! Have you never seen Monty Python And The Holy Grail? There's a perfect example in that historical documentary of a killer rabbit that lays waste to an entire troop of heavily armed and armored knights. When the John Cleese character hisses that it's "the most ferocious rodent you've ever laid eyes on!", my blood ran cold...

Yes, yes, I know they're not rodents...on paper at least. But, come on, all it would take would be for one or two eggheads to scribble a scholarly paper or two, and rabbits would become full-fledged rodents faster than you can say "More Hasenpfeffer, please!" And nobody would bat an eye; we all know that's where they belong. We just let them have their own separate little category so that eating them is more palatable; nobody wants to eat rats.
