Interesting, would it work in this size tank with a combination of a salvini, convict, jack dempsey, etc?

Or maybe a big(ger) group of firemouths or nics?
Not likely. My male Escondido was a savage beast. Beautiful fish, but not exactly a cichlid community type of fish. Oddball non cichlids may be different story.

Doesnt suprise me but had to ask.

I'm almost ashamed but I have no clue what to do with this 8 ft tank with a CA stocking If I want some plants stuck to the wood or if not possible, atleast a bit of complexity with the wood (not 1 giant log).

Been searching for ages but cant figure it out. Im basically looking for a SA community tank but with CA cichlids. Like one of two big boys and one or two bottom hugging groups complemented with dithers. Or one tank boss and a combination of medium sized cichlids that have some interaction amongst each other.

That's not 8ft......
Sorry you missed my other reply, I have a 250 x 70 x 70 cm tank (320 gallons) that gonna be empty next week and I have no clue what to stock it with. His Carpintis being with plants triggered the question.

So 8.2 feet to be exactly, by 2.3 x 2.3 ft

Cons and salvini are pretty aggressive plus I'm pretty sure all three of those could hybridize and the last thing the hobby needs is more bizarre hybrids. I'd go with a nice group of firemouths very nice attractive fish and fairly personable

Yeah Im leaning that way, they live in shoals in the wild as well. And they can live with plants. But thats a bottom dwelling fish, so what would you keep 'above' them? One or two bigger fish (say the ca equivalent of a oscar and chocolate) would be welcomed.

Ditch the plants or go fake and you can go with a pair or harem of any of the Vieja types and a big group of Thorichthys and /or Cribroheros.. Can swap the Vieja for a C. pearsi or bocourti or Chuco or similar too..

I currently have a pair of V melanura "Lago Peten" a small group of O heterospila and a group of T. meeki in a 240, w/ zero issues.. I personnaly have no experience with them and plants...

Also had Vieja group, C. robertsoni group and T. meeki group in another tank that worked well other than the robertsoni and meeki beefing occasionally...

Yeah either the robertsino or meeki, just want one bottom dwelling group that shows some natural behavior/interaction. Leaning Meeki. Ok, starting to realize I really need to give up on the plants.

Do you have a picture or video of that tank?

Checking the stock list of my LFS they have these types:
Cincelichthys bocourti Lago Izabal
Cincelichthys pearsei Lacanjah
Amphilophus flaveolus Lake Apoyo F2
Herichthys carpintis Escondido
Herichthys tamasopoensis
Herichthys deppi
Maskaheros argenteus
Maskaheros regani
Oscura heterospila
Vieja bifasciata Rio Chacamax
Vieja bifasciata Rio Teapa
Vieja breidohri
Vieja guttulata
Vieja maculicauda
Vieja melanura Belize F1
Vieja melanura Belize F2
Vieja synspilum/melanura
Vieja synspilum/melanura Lago Peten
Vieja synspilum/melanura Spotted
Vieja zonata Rio Perro

Skipped the amatitlania, parachromis and thorychthis species.

Ok, so let's say I stock with 8 (?) meeki, how would you complete a stocking list for the 320g?
