Thanks everyone.

Filled up the tank 90% today to make sure it holds water. So far so good.

Tomorrow I need to buy filter media and heaters.

See if an LFS ("All Heps Pets" in Milwaukie) will sell you a cycled sponge filter. You can cut it up into pieces, add to one of the trays and cut down on cycle time when you get the tank running. I've done this a few times and was happy. Put it in the top tray.

Isn't that what you're for JK? You and your magic little scrubbies? :grinno:

I can def stop by tomorrow if you still want to work on your monster tank. I will bring your 3 scrubbies back, I squeezed them out and am going a different route on the cycle, as you know. :naughty:

Thanks for the heads up tho!

lol! I'll help, you know that. You can take one of the hydor V's from my 125 and just buy me a new one. I also have a 300 watt heater I am not using if you need to borrow one till you get everything sorted out. Remind me tomorrow before you leave and I'll set you up.

When I can drink again your going to owe me allot beer! :grinno:

Thanks man, I have a 250 watt stealth that came with the tank but it looks pretty sketchy. Don't think I'd be comfortable using it for anything other than fishless cycling. I was thinking of going by that place you mentioned for the $30 titanium heaters with controllers? Those sounds sweet. :naughty:

I might take you up on the hydor, although I'm a little tempted to try my own stability experiment 100% from scratch, but maybe it's for the best to use all I can.

As to the setup:
Tomorrow I will get substrate, heaters, fill the tank up again (drained it), and get the FX5 running. Pictures to come. :nilly:

aclockworkorange guess what? Im getting an fx5 tomorrow too! :)
What filter media should I get for it? Also since u have one, did u set it up yet? can you make the output tube go in the water more? I have a turtle tank and water level is 90%
So also how long is the power cord? is it more than 8 feet? this is important

I couldn't find it in this thread so sorry if it was mentioned, but what stores can you get that sand at? I really like the look of it.

Your call bro, Stability from scratch is fun or you can take one of my filters or do both. Either way is fine by me. Sorry for bailing on buffing my tank today. I needed to rest really bad after my PT. :( The place is called "Saltwater Fanta-Seas" and it's about 10 blocks east of I-205 on Sandy blvd. Patrick is the owners name, he'll set you up. (503) 255-1645. LMK if you need anything else.

GREAT SUCCESS! :nilly:

-Tank is filled
-FX5 is hooked up
-Bought a 200 watt titanium heater with controller that should work for summer and that's hooked up
-Lights are hooked up to a timer
-Discovered there is a built in light in my stand's cabinet. Sweet. :grinno:

TO DO:
-FX5 needs more bio material, running a little low on funds. :(
-Need more driftwood. Will probably use pvc pipe as a short term substitute.
-Planting java ferns and anubias nana in said driftwood
-Possible addition of more filtration/powerhead(s)
-Cycle tank and ADD FISH :headbang2

Hey dude.

Awesome. :headbang2

I bought a box of eheim pro, it was only enough to fill one basket up most of the way. I would guess the filter needs 4 boxes of eheim, or a lot of whatever else. I'm gonna buy more bio junk in a few days when I move my funds around, just wanted to hook it up and made sure everything ran.

As far as choosing filter media, I believe it is a fact the eheim has the most surface area--whether that even matters is up for debate. I'm sure any of the brands of bio media would work fine, I know people even run scrubbies in their FX5. This is especially true if you are running more than one filter with bio media, which I think you are.

Yes, you can make the output tube go down as far as you want, I believe there is a limit on how far all the total hosing for the system, but you shouldn't have a problem (too lazy to look it up! :D)...

The power cord isn't even 8 feet. It's like maybe four feet, and that's being generous. I would hook up an extension cord if that's a problem, would only cost a couple bucks.
