oh, and for heat for this tank I'm thinking an inline 7kw heater. It's one of those instant water heaters. I can just run cold water straight in during water changes and it'll heat it up, and I can also run it inline with a small pump to keep the water a constant temp in the tank. Won't really have to worry about space heaters and heating the whole garage as much during the winter. I would think that with 3" thick walls almost solid wood that it would hold it's heat fairly well anyway.
Look at TheFishGuy's build. He has one plumbed into a length of hose coiled in his sump. When the thermostat comes on, it heats the water in the coil which then heats the water in the sump. when the thermostat in the sump reaches temp, the water heater turns off. That's where I got the idea to use one on my tank.

You don't want it to contact the "dirty" water from the tank. I'm planning on filling the coil with distilled water to prevent scaling and such and extend the life of the water heater.

Ok, so would 250 micron sock set 4" above a 100 micron sock, and 4" above a 50 micron sock work?
Yeah that would work... as long as what you're talking about is the tip of one sock being 4" above the mouth of the next. The bags don't nicely fit inside each other - I mean they probably COULD, but it will be a PITA to reinstall them every time after cleaning. 100micron will keep your water pretty clear. 250micron will keep your water pretty clear for that matter... it's a large, low light setup, so if there is a little bit of sub 200 micron waste in there it won't affect your viewing much.

I think they'll probably clog quickly in a 4000 gal anyway, I'll just have to make sure to switch them out often.
Depends how many you run in parralel I guess. The largest bags are quite big. If you run 5 or 6 in parralel it might not be too bad. JohnPTC has some filter socks on his 10k setup...

hmmm, some good food for thought guys. I'm gonna digest all of this and get back to you guys.

As for another update I added some more ply to the inside. The plywood to the inside stage is almost complete. I need to get some hole saws now so that I can fit the drains in place on the side of the tank. Sorry for lack of pics. I've been taking some, but need to borrow my neighbor's cord again to download them. I'm short a few pieces of plywood. Comes out of the pieces that were cut to size. I had the right amount of square feet, but didn't subtract the cuts that had to be made. So I can either jigsaw in the pieces I have or I can just go buy some more lol. Would look kinda strange if I did that though. Might work on the back, but not on the sides or front. lol, and yet again I need more screws.

I haven't been keeping up with the progress and just found the filter/plumbing sketch up. In our PM's I was thinking the piping was vertical instead of horizontal. Disregard those numbers and I'll rework the math.

...In our PM's...
I just realized that the dialog was in the pipe sizing thread. I'm not totally senile (yet), I get a lot of pm's and can't keep them all straight.
