Hey did you ever find something with holes in it to put a top of your bio-balls and scrungies.

Yes I did...I wound up going buy more containers like the ones I was going to originally use. Rather than cut the bottom off like I did to use plastic pegboard I did it the old fashion way and drew a grid on the bottom of the plastic container and went to town with my drill. Its not flat on the bottom but my idea is to keep the holes small enough for the container to hold a little water so it will cover all the holes. There are larger holes around the top of the container so just in case it fills with water it will overflow into the sump not the stand.

I have a little more work to do in that area of the sump. I used 1" bulkheads in that first can thinking there was only one 1.5" bulkhead feeding it. But they are not flowing enough. They can keep up when I fire the 2nd pump up but just barely. I got some 1.5" ones im going to use. I probably wont get to fool with that till early next week tho. Going out of town for the weekend. I also still need to rig up my filter sock holder in that first can so I can put some socks on the tank.

Here are some shots of the reactors and UV setup. I dont know if that is the final spot for the UV...it fits there but looks out of place. But I really dont have room anywhere else. On both (UV and reactors) I have the feed pump getting water after the bio area and the return goes back to the bio area.

Just out of curiousity, what is your temperature staying at when the mh's are on?

That my friend is clean! I'm very impressed, hopefully I will be patient enough to have a filtration setup like that some day..

Well I had the temp jacked up to 83 with the fish kinda sickish...I just dropped that down day before yesterday to 78. The tank dropped to 80 before the lights came on again yesterday and it got to 80.3. This is with out my fan running in the canopy. I would guess it might be lower today...and would rise slightly when the lights come on with no fan. When it was set at 83 and the fan was on with the lights on (timer) the heater would heat to 83.1 and shut off till 82.9 and start over. With the fan off it would hit 83.1 and climb another point or 2. So the heaters didnt have to run ($).

So once I get down to 78 ill see how much it really heats the water. My thought is with my fan on it lowers the temps making the 2x300w heaters come on. Since my lights are already on and im paying for it....why not do the opposite...let the lights heat it and use the fan to drop it down when it hits the high set point. Cool feature with the controller!! Now I dont know if the lights would heat it more than the fan or fans could cool it. Havent got that far yet :D

When I used to run MH's I ran them without any heaters or fans on for a couple of days to find out the tanks normal, most stable temperature. Once I figured that out I programmed the fans to come out about a degree above that point and the heaters to come on a degree below that point. As long as you are around 80 give or take a degree or two you should be fine. Stability is the most important thing.

Yep...im enjoying the controller...its nice to be able to control the heater like this...and shut off lights if it gets even hotter.
