300 gallon tank - the project begins!

Right now the pump can be heard everywhere in my house. I've got to figure out something. I'm going to start by putting a couple of layers of foam underneath it. If that doesn't help I'm going to be making a trip to Lowe's to pick up some insulation and insulate the entire stand.

Once I do the foam underneath the pump I'll know for sure if it is some kind of vibration or if it is the pump. Also, I have an e-mail into reeflo about it. I'm sure if there is a problem with the pump they will take care of it.

I wanted to give an update on the tank. I have done quite a bit of sound proofing. I insulated the stand, added rubber couplings on the input and output of both pumps, and put foam board under both pumps. It has made a huge difference and I can now sleep at night. My wife keeps telling me that it is quiet enough and to leave it alone. It sucks being anal retentive and wanting things perfect. :)

I also added some lights to the stand which make things much easier to work on under the tank. Here is a picture of one of them.

Also, I ordered some Malaysian driftwood for the tank today. Hopefully I will get it by the weekend so I can boil it then let it soak for a couple of days. If I don't get it by the weekend it probably won't go in the tank for a month or so when I can get around again without crutches.

I also ordered a 40 pound bag of crushed coral. I plan on adding that along with another 50 pound bag of pool filter sand to the tank. The tank needs a little more sand to cover the ugj system a little better. Also, my ph is staying around 6.4, I'm hoping the crushed coral will raise it to closer to 7.0. The fish are doing fine already but I think they may be a little happier with a slightly higher ph.

Also, here is a current picture of the tank.

Off to the pool store today to get more sand. These fish are really enjoying making my life hell by moving most of the sand to one side of the tank. I have to admit though, I really enjoy watching the black belt grab a mouth full of sand then just let it filter through his gills.

I'm planning on picking up another 150 pounds plus 40 pounds of crushed coral to help raise the ph slightly. I'm hoping that will be enough. :D

It's amazing how boring cooking driftwood can be. I am planning on cooking it about 1 1/2 hours then I need to cook some rock for half an hour or so. Woohoo!!! :)

It wouldn't be so bad but the driftwood is not nearly as large as I had expected. Looks like I am going to have to spend even more money.

This is how ya cook wood. :)

We have a commercial kitchen for our business so I am "borrowing it" for a little while. Actually, for about two hours. ;)

The tank is glass.

My wife called and asked what I was doing and I told her cooking rock. She didn't really know what to think. You would think she would understand. Actually, I believe she is to the point since one time she called and I was baking the headlights off of my Ninja. Only baked them at 225* for ten minutes. :naughty:
