Anyone know for def if liquid rubber will bond happily to epoxy/A1 pond paint?

emailed the UK liquid rubber webpage, cheers nolapete, waiting to hear back from them on a few Q's and price.

i've been reading through BadOlRoss's thread with interest, the liquid rubber works great there, maybe i should finish up the tank/filter with that instead of more pond epoxy? I'm so confused don't know where to confidently turn next!? :irked: :(!

i've been thinking about using this to seal the glass in place. I use it at work and it sticks like you know what to a blanket, its suitable for underwater applications such as swimming pools and can be used in header tanks etc. to fix leaks, so i'm thinking its ok for pools and in 'drinking' water applications so it will be ok once cured and won't harm aquatic life. any thoughts?

Hey Mike, I figured I'd move our discussion over on to your thread. As far as LR bonding to the epoxy I think you will be OK but I have never tried it. The only thing I know that LR does not bond to is glass and silicone. I used a bead of fiberglass resin around my viewing window to get a seal and the LR bonded great to that. If you are going to be coating the inside of your tank with LR or even think you might have to after your next fail, make sure you get a good seal of epoxy around your viewing window area. If there is an area where you will need a seal with the epoxy, regardless of the sealing method, its around the glass. If you are still considering a liner, you might want to switch to acrylic glass. That way you can bolt the glass through the liner and get a good seal. Hope your ready for the glass sticker shock!

Sorry to hear of your problems with the epoxy.

What kind of epoxy are you using?

Used epoxy on my 240 gallon ply tank and have had no problems.

Will re-read the last portions of the thread to catch up on the problem you are having.

Hi john, in the start is used A1 pond epoxy paint

http://www.antel-uk.co.uk/tds/A1 Pond Paint.html?gclid=CKq5-KSO1qACFQZslAodEHSDug

Put two decent coats of that, after which i have used 'west systems' clear epoxy, applying fibre glass tape along all the joints/corners, followed by, in the filter only so far, two more coats of clear, it seemed to have a decent visual covering by then and the filter held water like a champ for three days, on the fourth i spotted a small leak. its drained, dried and rubbed down ready for some more, of what im not sure!

personally i feel i did under estimate the numbers of coats it needs so perhaps i just to to buy a load more, reapply plenty of coats, although i'm thinking about glazing it and coating the internals with plenty of liquid rubber which is working well for people. bit stuck really because of the past failure but i think i may give the epoxy a couple more coats and decent curing time and see.
