Cool, i mean all the other plants i've already trimmed at least once, just the HC has been un-touched atm... But maybe this coming weekend it will be time for a trim...

^ hahahaha, yeah i wanted to put a wooly mammoth in there but couldn't find one :)

But on a serious note, i did use to have algae / moss grow on my old backgrounds, but found too much food used to get trapped inside which is why this time im going for a slightly cleaner look...

Oh and will try to do a video when i have a bit more free time... Going to be a busy week or two coming up...

Wow, i've been slacking on updates...

The HC went through a little bit of a bad patch as i started to run out of Co2 and didnt have time to get it refilled till yesterday...

But every other plant inside has started to seriously fill out... So will try and get some new pics over the weekend once i've had a chance to do a little more trimming...

Awesome. I have been wanting to do a planted tank with an HC carpet with no CO2, so it's been really insightful seeing the progress and changes you've had to make to get this far with the tank.

^ Thanks, in all honesty, i still think with possibly T5-HO lighting, daily dose of flourish excel, plant ferts and good soil it maybe possible to grow without Co2 injection... Only problem is im not sure if the plant would grow quite as well or full as with it...

Have you started a planted tank? Or still planning one?

I've been planning a planted community tank, but have yet to pull the trigger.

I wanted to take the dirt route and go with some miracle grow organic potting soil capped with some black gravel or sand. Leaning towards sand since the HC roots better with smaller substrates I've read...

I've got a 36" Current USA Nova Extreme T5 fixture that I was going to use. The ballast failed on my so I'm waiting on a new ballast.

^ Thats sounds like a good idea... Although with the HC roots being quite short, i take it you plan on only using only a thin layer of sand?

Either way, be sure to post up a build thread when you do get going...
