Im a discus person all the way. I like angels and they are pretty but the colors or the discus are unmatched by anything else in the freshwater rehlm. They are hard to keep unless you get adults then they are relatively easy compared to Juvis. I really think as the other people have stated its about time and money. Angel fish are about 2 x easier to keep than discus. If you educate yourself really well before hand, then discus can be an easy fish to maintain making sure you know your stuff really well and knowing the right kind of food that will give your discus the best chance at being healthy for life. (beefheart flake food is my personal favorite, had THE BEST luck!!)

discus are more pretty but i dont want something so high maintanence and all around hard to keep alive..angelfish i think id want more..

You just answered your own question. If your just starting out tank breed domestic Angles are probibly easier on the wallet durning the learning curve. However........

Discus are no harder to keep than any other fish. I keep all my fish the same, Tetras to Discus gets the same attention to detail, frequent large water changes, high quality food, clean well established tanks. That's the secret to keeping everything.......don't tell anybody I told you, they'll get mad at me. GL

I tried Discus, just didn't work for me.

I have blue angels and they are nice looking fish, not as nice as discus like everyone is saying but its more affordable and more readily available.

Whatever your choice, Im sure you will enjoy them! Post some pics when you make your decision!

I have kept both and enjoy them equally. I voted Angelfish because there is nothing like an Altum in a heavily planted tank. I don't currently have any Discus but am seriously thinking about setting up another Discus tank. I think I will do this sometime around the ACA convention this year and try to find some really nice Wild caught Discus and go planted.

I'm not a big fan of discus. They're like angels minus the attractive finnage and reasonable pricing, and with higher maintenance requirements.
