Anything Caquetaia!

My pair of spectabiles finally look like they are about to spawn again. They both have their breeding tubes fully out, they are both getting a nice orange color, they are both cleaning like crazy, and the female's belly area looks plump. I'll take some pics tonight after the sun sets. I need a nap anyway.

Sorry I didn't get any pics posted last night. After I woke up from my nap, I remember it was some girl's birthday, I promised her I'd stop by ther neighborhood bar she planned to go to, and buy her a couple birthday drinks. I did that, was about ready to go home and take some pics of the fish, then some other girl I knew wanted me to play darts, so I did that till about midnight, past my bedtime on a worknight. Hey, I know, but I'm getting old, I can stay out like I used to. Anyway, when I got home, the specs layed some eggs!! Yeah!!!

But I had to go to bed. I got home from work today, and snapped some pics. They dug out around the base of some driftwood and laid eggs on the base. There is a pretty extensive cave-like area of rocks, flower pots, drfitwood, plants, and piles of gravel. I don't really know what it looks like beyond the opening of the cave area that you see in the pics, they may have laid more eggs that I can't see. I know there is bare glass around the base of the driftwood, they dig a lot of digging. I didn't even see the eggs last time they spawned, the first thing I saw was a cloud of free swimming fry. Glad I got to see this stage.

Here is a pic of the base of driftwood where they placed some eggs, I don't know if that's all the eggs.

Thanks. I hope to raise some fry big enough to take to the ACA convention.

Well, I got home from work, and don't see any eggs. The parents are still together guarding the cave area. Maybe they hatched and the parents moved the wrigglers, if they did, I haven't located them yet. But there are a lot of areas back in thee that I can't see. Time will tell.

good luck with the fry (if there is any)

we don't get the spectabiles over here but they look quite similar to the umbees don't they?

how do they go with the butti generally. my mate had one and it was a phsyco!
