Aquarium causing basement to smell?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Its because you dont use carbon. Thats not too hard to figure out man. That is step #1. I prefer to use an organic removant called chemi-pure instead. Seems to do a better job.

I don't use carbon, all bio and all my tanks smell fine, no fishy smell :D

Go S. Vettel #1 rb8

My wife says this all the type usually when I feed though check the rims of your tank and hoods lights under the stand for food that may be stuck some where.

I'm running fresh water... An my water conditions are good an I do bi weekly water changes... Only think I can think of really is I use hikari carnisticks an massivore wich stinks but I seal the bag right up after I feed an there's never left over food in tank. Maybe it's just the humidity in the basement??? But I figured its no humid out now so why would it smell

I think I found at least part of your problem, there's also a product called damp-rid you can get at lowes and home depot that should help some too.

To the people using carbon to remove the smell from there tanks do a water change! A healthy tank doesn't need carbon and shouldn't smell, there's no reason to use carbon but to remove meds.

Carbons a crock. You don't need it in a healthy tank. I've found that when my wife "smells" my fish tank, it's really because I'm in trouble for something else so she attacks one of my favorite hobbies. Maybe there's an entirely different issue!

its the massivor i just started using it and it makes my basement smell

agree with that i used to feed massivore and my girl always complained in my case it made the water a little funky and also sometimes a pellet or 2 or just some pellet crumbs would fall in the crack next to the lid. and it would funk up Ever smelled wet massivore ? Ever smelled rotting wet massivore?

there are very good chances thats the problem.

good luck

+1 to the smell of wet rotting massivor never buying it again going to make my own like monster peacock

I say switch to NLS problem solved long as you dont get the ones with extra garlic. Ive been switching all my fish over for the same reason carnisticks/massivore isnt too bad if your feeding one fish but if you got a few mouths in there to feed then its hard to avoid the smell. In my tanks the smell would leave in an hour or two after feeding but I cant stand the smell.
