Ok I could not go through all the pages, but anyone know about GE Silicone II?

it has this phrase on the back that confuses me: Not for use below the water line, where FDA compliance is necessary, or aquariums.

I was planning on using the Silicone to glue substrate to an artificial cave i was going to build.

ive got a quick question , im planning on builing a tank and it will have a 1/2 inch thick acrylic front that is 5feet long and 2feet high , and in the earlier posts it seems like dow 732 was the way to go (especially because its fda safe and wont leech any chemicals into the water).

i was worried that this silicone wouldnt stick too well to acrylic(as everybody says), but on the main site it says "Adhesive Properties -> Adhesion to Plastic" but not how well , so im here asking if anyone has used it with acrylic , or if you see any problems with my plans, also im going to be using an epoxy coating on the inside of the plywood.

thanks for your time.

I wouldn't use silicone for that. There are specific products designed to adhere to acrylics. The names escape me. These products adhere the joints rather than cause a seal on the joints

Do you have a data sheet for GE2? I would like to see how they are the same.

Also, you're talking about weld-on. It's an acrylic cement.

I don't have it currently (on cell), but a search should produce results. Most GE silicines are now produced by momentive (http://www.momentive.com/). If you can, chip in with a few buddies and buy SCS1200. The strogest FDA approved silicone. For RTV108, yu can buy some by the tube from Angelsplus.com.

im doing a plywood tank though , with only one sheet of acrylic in it , it will be adhered to epoxy resin , as the inside of the tank will be coated in it. so im guessing an acrylic to acrylic glue wouldnt be what i need.

I"ve never done anything like that. I would talk to a custom tank builder for that type of construction.

Rico, please find the datasheet for GE2 when you can. I don't think RTV108 and GE2 are the same, so I'd like to compare the data. That's the only real way to confirm they are indeed the same as you say.
