Rico, please find the datasheet for GE2 when you can. I don't think RTV108 and GE2 are the same, so I'd like to compare the data. That's the only real way to confirm they are indeed the same as you say.[/QUOTE

I don't have the MSDS, but its quite easy at the momentive website. I spoke with them last year, and they did tell me "GE II is the consumer equivalent to RTV 108". I understand your being thouroug, you can go to the momentn site, and get their contact number, and. Get confirmatio, and learn along the way. Not trying to be rude but do a little digging.

I have done some digging. None of that led me to believe that GE 2 was RTV 108. I was hoping you had the datasheet to back up that claim. If so, I'm sure everyone would rejoice to know that they are the same and there is no reason to order it online.

This is so interesting, in 1 minute I found datasheets for both. In the end, GE does NOT say to use underwater because of liability. But here are links for all to make their own decisions. I have multiple tanks which I've sealed using both. No leaks, noe dead fish. I'm happy, as are many whove contributed to this thread. Toeach his own.

I can find the RTV108 datasheet just fine. I can also find the MSDS for GE2, but I can't find (nor did you link), the data sheet for GE2. The adhesive properties, tensile strength, etc that are found in the RTV108 datasheet is really what I'm looking after for GE2.

i know this one guy and he ran a fish store for a little over 10 years , and he has been using RTV white lightning silicone for all his tanks/repairs , he says the silicone shouldn't matter as long as its 100% silicone. only one problem , i picked up a tube of it today and on the front it says "cured sealant resists mildew growth", from what Ive been reading that is a very bad thing for aquariums.

so i was just wondering what you guys thought about that as he has been keeping fish alive and healthy in tanks sealed with that silicone.

Although the has probable been answered in greater detail; but the short version my sister provided was that the older GE Silicone I was ideal.

The quick way to determine if you have the old or new formula is to read the first line of the "warnings section" of the tube. If it says anything to the effect of "[A]cetic acid released..." that it is perfectly safe.

First of all I would like to say hello to everyone. Yes another newb here. :)

Anyway. I have been away from aquariums for 10+ years and am going to be getting back into it yet again in the near future.

But first thing is first. Some of the old silicone has started to peel off of my 20L. So naturally I figured that if that little section is bad then might as well replace all the inner silicone. Now that I have it all scraped out and looking at silicones on the market. The ones that use to say aquarium safe no longer say such things.

I hear that GE typeI silicone is safe as well as DAP Household sealant (previously known as Household/Aquarium sealant). The DAP silicone is not sold anywhere within 50 miles of where I live. And GE typeI is a little expensive, but would buy if the next turns to be a flop.

Where I work we use alot of clear silicone. Most of which is used in food display cases and refrigerated/heated food counters. I have searched the forum and cannot find the brand refrenced anywhere.

So here is my question. Has anyone heard of or used Sila-Seal Industrial 100% Silicone part #1233-200 before?

Here are some of the specs.....

FDA regulation #21 CFR 177.2600

ASTM C920, TypeS, Grade NS, Class 25

Fed Specs TT-5-001543A and TT-5-00230c, Type 2

Certified by NSF

UL File Number E 196754

*NOTES*
When cured and washed. This product complies with FDA regulation 21 CFR 177.2600.

Here is a link to the MSDS sheet.

Would this be safe to reseal my aquarium?

Thanks in advance.

GE 1 or GE1200 works for me.....
all the locals here use it and still have tanks lol
Every time I need silicone I use the GE. Apparently the "New" version of the stuff hasn't made it my way yet

I'm assuming just the bottle is new right? I had to buy the new designed caulk bottle and wasn't sure if I was picking the right kind. It was GE 1 Windows and doors.
