I prefer snakehead gudgeons over sleepies. Get big, crazy colours, more active hunters than sleepy cod and more inclined to hang out in the open. Just got rid of my big blue one, would have been a solid 10". A group of these in a big tank would certainly be impressive.

Have you got any tips on keeping these guys? (ie water parameters and suggested food types) I just picked one up a week ago and there's not much information around. Mine is starting to colour up with some nice orange colours and I'm keen to see how good I can get it looking.

here mate http://fishbase.sinica.edu.tw/summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=11795

im still gonna go with a sleepy as i want somthing with a decent lenght and bulk to it, cause im gonna try and put it with a grunter, that gets 45-50cm and are very aggressive, and if that doesnt work out i wil probably just get another stone fish.

Give them some cover ie driftwood and plants. Mine was wild caught but was feeding shell-off prawns and hikari sticks after a week. Low current and acidic water would probably be appreciated, these guys are usually in backwaters with heaps of leaflitter and fallen branches. Pretty good hunters as well so anything small enough to be eaten will be. Otherwise they are docile with other fish. Once it's fully coloured up it will be a spectacular fish. Most are an orangey body with blue and orange on the fins. Up north you can get a blue body morph if you know which creeks to visit.

this is another native that I havent kept before (along with mouth almighty)... never even seen one for sale actually. Your descriptions of them have got me interested though.
Anyone know much about native f/water eels?

I have 7 of them. They are short finned eels - Anguilla australis. They are all around the 15cm mark. They eat fish and shrimp, but i have almost got them on pellets. They usually sell for $25.00 for a 10cm specimen.

PM me if you would like one.
