Very nicely done. No waste of material/colossal overbuild.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to put one more vertical support in the end next to the sump, but even that is probably not necessary.

Actually, given the size involved with everything, I might suggest centering the sump. If there's some sort of issue with the plumbing, it probably would be a good thing to be able to get behind it. Or just put it in the front half.
well we thought about centering the sump, but im supposed to be picking up a sequence pump and ultima II filter tomorrow. so i figured id place the sump towards the back and the ultima towards the front. also the front of the stand has the widest opening tio allow the ultima to slid in under the stand.

Looking good so far! good progress. I loved process of setting up my 240, It took 1 year and around 1300 bucks later but I know I set up the tank and everything on at the cheapest possible price. It was worth the wait of finding pumps and stuff for good prices. Im glad you are taking this seriously and finishing your investment though!!! Its one thing buying a monster tank but Its another thing to actually get it running!!!!

Well done. Double vertical 2x4's. Check.

Verticals between the top and bottom to prevent shearing of fasteners. Check.

Looks good. Get all your pluming and goodies under it then skin it with some 1/4" birch plywood from home depot a rub a little stain on with an old sock and she'll look like a million bucks.

Nice set up! I would have used screws instead of nails though. Stronger and easier to take apart if need be.

OHh.... didn't notice the nails part. Screws would be better. BUT the way you built it the nails should be ok.

oh we used screws, not nails, dont need a nail coming out and this whole thing come crashing down! we used a whole box + some of 2.5" deck screws.

Good call. His previous post listed nails with the materials. Thus our concern for your precious fish Geo Queen.

yea, i dont know why i posted nails. definitely meant screws. This build will be finished for sure. You can put money on that. When sitting on the couch the middle of the tank is head height. Its a beautiful thing, looking left at a big tank, then looking forward and seeing a big 58" plasma on the wall. Also if notice to the right of the tv is a 20 gal long with top trim gone. Gonna do a lil planted tank right there as well.

I see a hand reaching for the laptop rolled up in a blanket on the couch. Good way to spend a Saturday morning.
