he said he was gonna coat it with concrete, and if u had been reading the thread ud kno hes fed up with sanitred
I knew he was thinking about skim coating, that's why I asked how he would seal the pond armor to the sanitred product at the seams.

Moving on to wizzin's post...

yeah, um. I did try that, but sanitred wouln't sell me more product. I think I made them mad :screwy: :grinno:
You asked for thoughts, I gave you mine. When you didn't like it you throw this at me :screwy: <-, hey thanks buddy. I can only say that if you really want the product you will find a way to get it. If you need ideas ask some members for help.

Sorry, you misunderstood my :screwy: That was NOT directed at you. Yeah, I thought about getting the product through other means, but I don't even want to do that. I want to be done with them all together.

I understand your question better now. For the "seams" or where the pond armor would interface the sanitred products, I'm going to strip the sanitred products from the glass and wood (easy since it's already pealing off the glass on it's own) and run the new pond armor right up to the wood and partially over the wood. Then cover the pond armor and wood to glass with silicone. I have some practice stripping the sanitred from the glass/wood frame since I had to do it 3 times already. When you asked originally, you mentioned skimming with LRB then "the other stuff" over top of that. I thought you meant trying to paint pond armor over sanitred, which I've already said is not suggested by pond armor.

I'll post pics when I do it.

Well, when you applied the LRB/TAV you did it after one coat of the Permaflex. They specify that it be done after 2 coats. Of course, they didn't have anything to say about the emailed instructions you got stating that the LRB/TAV should be applied after one coat (post 779). :irked:

They infer that multiple layers are ok. IE Permaflex, Permaflex, LRB/TAV, then Permaflex. They had no problems with additional coats and additional applications of LRB/TAV. If Permaflex on Permaflex is ok, then how can your install be unfixable as they indicated in the email they sent you refusing your order?

Warranties are great, but if the vendor starts to change the story when problems occur then the warranty is worthless. When things go bad the true nature of the vendor is revealed.

In a way I'm glad you tried to use the Sanitred product. You were able to determine that it isn't a viable product for DIY concrete block aquariums. This saved myself and others from having to learn the hard way that this product should be avoided. That doesn't fix your problem but your pioneering is appreciated.

I'll be looking at Pond armor. I'm waiting to see how Johnptc's expansion project goes. If Pond Armor is able to seal all the joints and seams he has without a leak then I'm sold.

Yeah, I'm glad to have educated the MFK community :) I think sanitred would work IF you scrim coated the entire concrete block tank with their LRB mixture, which was not, and is not part of their instructions, or calculations, and was never mentioned until it was clear that the block was too porous for the permaflex to seal it.

If you calculate the amount required by talking with them or using their calculator, you'll find out that it's FAR more expensive to seal with 1 coat permaflex, 1 coat lrb, then 2 more coats of permaflex than it would cost to do one coat of pond armor.

the block is just too porous for the permaflex to seal it by itself. You have to do an entire coat of LRB. Or use a thicker product.
