I had a few drawings and artworks that I plan to post about a idea of building a ayrlic HO scale double track railroad tunnel on the bottom of eather a giant glass or ayrlic fish tank but now after seeing the giant cement and steel and glass fish tanks I'm thinking it might have to go along the bottom of one of these giant tanks.
Very interesting. So you will have either a glass or acrylic tunnel on the concrete floor of the tank then.

Orginally I planed to have the acrylic railroad tunnel built into a larger acrylic fish tank but then after seeing this mega tank and the other cement fish tanks out there I thought of changing the plan around to where the arcylic tunnel might be a hour sided tunnel that would be laid and glued to the bottom of the cement tank going though a opening on eatch side of the tank.

One of the railroad tunnel plans even made me wounder about the possibly if the tank is deeper then three feet to have the railroad acrylic tunnel laid on top of a two to three foot high underwater bridge with the possible idea of acrylic the railroad tunnel run on top of a submerged arylic or fake rock bridge of some kind if the tank's bottom gets deeper then the tops of the stardard train set tables if it's possible.

I'm most likely not going to be able to start work on it for the next three to five years in that I have to finish my four year school. But there are things I'm doing to at least plan it out such as that when I look at houses in a town or area that I migh think of looking for a job in when I move out. I make sure that the house has at least one to three acres of open land around the house to eather build a different house for the fish tank or that the old house has room to build a fish tank room and large train set room on it. This idea is that I know I'm never going to find the perfect existing house for my needs so I plan to add on two or three rooms to a existing room such as maybe a master bed room a better eatting area and a living room with giant fish tank in back of it. I've had some not to bad sucuess in finding at least 15 houses with land that could be possible places. I also make drawings of eather some of these existing houses and land that I picked out and so what they would look like with a fish and a train set room added to them.

awesome tank!!!
Forgive me if this has already been asked i haven't read the whole thread way to many pages lol
with the heating of your tank is there any reason why you didn't use floor heating. The type installed in the slab when being layed. Was it because of electrical costs? I would of thought this would be a very efficent way of heating a tank this size. I ask because i am in the process of planning our new home and will be building a concrete tank. No where near as large as yours though.

I actually never thought of it at the time.

I must admit the original oil fired swimming pool heater really worked well and was very cost efficient.

I had a fire because it was improperly installed and serviced by my dealer. New regulations imposed over the last 10 years pretty well ended me being able to use a oil fired swimming pool water heater inside my house and led me to use a tankless gas fired water heater.

Interesting enough to make it more efficient I am in the process of running 300 feet of Pex oxygen barrier 1" radiant floor heating tubing inside the first 4 feet of the tank and connecting it to the heat exchanger I built on the side of the tankless hot water heater where I already have a circulating pump. It will sit on top of the tanks concrete floor at the 9 foot deep level and the area I am placing it in, will not be visible to viewers unless they are in the inflatable boats we use for serving the tank.

I ordered it last week and am going over to my buddy Ray "Kingfish" Lucas's house on Saturday with another friend Terry "Fever" Clements to pick it up.

I think your floor heating idea is excellent and wish I had your input when I built the tank 16 years ago.

What size will your tank be?

What fish are you planning to keep in it?

Please keep me updated on your tanks construction.

The pex way to heat is great, not sure if you're aware but my tank is heated with 75' of pex looped in the sump tank. Raising and lowering the temp is a breeze.

I would suggest against heat in the concrete floor... Heat in the sump or tank it's self is the way to go...
Figures you would already have it....... It sure helps that you are in the building trade.

What size tubing are you using? Is it the Pex oxygen barrier radiant floor tubing?

I've never used it before but is the heat transfer good like copper?

I'm using 1/2" ID so it could mate right up with my copper lines in my house using one simple compression fitting... I talked with the company and was told it was NOT worth the extra cost to get the O2 barrier for what I was using it for. It is not embedded into concrete rather coiled up in my sump, water on water. The logic was it is made up of the same material through and through so what's the difference if water is on the inside or the outside. Those were the techs words which saved me gobs of money. Actually, the heat transfer is BETTER than copper. And even better than the O2 barrier pex. Again, thiscoming from the manufacturer.

If you have already ordered your pex with O2 barrier, then see about returning it to get the standard tubing. It will save you a lot of money.
