People live in prison for long periods of time, small accomodations and subpar meals, it can be done, this pacu proves it.

He must be on a huge central system with a high turnover on that tank. There is no way he could maintain the water quality in that tiny tank with a fish that big. When he takes a dump, he must fog out the whole tank. I'm just surprised he hasen't broken the tank yet.

I want to see a full tank shot!

One of the comments on that news story was "75 gallon is pretty big" ...yea maybe for a 1" fish.

You guy kill me! The fish is alive for 40+ years. It has a 20 year span, right? How many of you lose a fish after 4 days? 4 weeks? 4 months?

I don't get it:confused:. Are you saying that this fish is in ideal conditions?

To all the people jumping on him for violating protocol. The fish should have been dead 20 years ago. How many here have actually kept a fish to it's wild life expectancy never mind double it.

I am sure we can all agree that the fish has some amazing genes.

I am also sure we can all agree that that is NOT adequate for a fish that size.

But they do come out of their cells at least every now and then and they dont live in their own piss and poop.

It's a BS story. Too many holes. Pacu are vegetarian, something (thiaminase, or a parasite, or the absence of vital nutrients perhaps?) in the feeders should have him dead by now, and the kind of person who keeps a Pacu in a little tank like that isn't the kind of person to keep up on water changes. I'll bet they replace that fish every two or three years and just play it down.

They obviously are not vegetarian, countless people keep them and treat them like pirahnas and give them fish.If they were vegetarians, they would all die because they couldnt adjust their systems to a completely different type of food. Their teeth are similar to those of humans,if anything they are omnivors.
