every time I see pics of pacus like that it pisses me off.

why?

because the fish has not been fed/raised properly.

how can you tell?

look at the body form. nice rounded front, but the back half of the fish is skinny, especially the ventral region. its like it was two different fish stuck together.

look at pics of some of the healthy pacus on this site. my old one was the same. nice round shape through out the whole body, nice and full from head to tail..

that fish has had growth problems, probably related to the diet and tank conditions.

impressive to live long, although its not really surprsing because pacus are one of the hardiest fish going. you have to try hard to kill one from water quality alone...

It's a BS story. Too many holes. Pacu are vegetarian, something (thiaminase, or a parasite, or the absence of vital nutrients perhaps?) in the feeders should have him dead by now, and the kind of person who keeps a Pacu in a little tank like that isn't the kind of person to keep up on water changes. I'll bet they replace that fish every two or three years and just play it down.
Pacu have fairly sharp teeth and sure will eat feeders.

I was confused...now I'm lost...

Saw this earlier and was shocked that's awful. But crazy if it's true wish we could know for sure it's hard to tell

This guy is keeping a (claimed) 20 pound pacu in a (what looks like) 75 gallon tank! Thats a hell of a fishkeeper!? Not only that, he is doing it in public as a roll model to his customers. How many pacus do you think he sold in the past 40 years because he "proved" that they could live in a 75 for life?

I don't care how much water is changed every day. Do you want to live in a closet for the next 40 years with an ionic breeze? You should be fine because the air quality will be top notch...

I'm not knocking the guy at all.The remark that I made about the P&P was a response to someone else comparing a pet fish to a prison inmate. As far as the owner,I commend him for keeping the Pacu alive for so long as I suspect most of them are bought by people who dont keep them alive for a fraction of this fish's life.
