YES...that is exactly what I am saying...He is a liar, and a pi**poor fishkeeper. If by "fish psychiatrist" you mean being able to look at a fish and see that it hasen't been able to move by more than it's bodylength in (supposedly) 39 years and tell that it is unhappy (for lack of a better word), then yes, I am a "fish psychiatrist". :screwy:

Out of curiosity, do you have anything similar at your pace? Would YOU proudly display that garbage?
Well, this isnt about me. I dont like Pacu. But lets face it, there are many fish that are not for the public fishkeeping. The pacu, no matter how you look at it, is alive. Many fish are treated much worst. Pacu are very cheap and readily available in the fish trade, its just the way it is. 99% of the buyer cant/will never be able to give the fish a proper home

It's a BS story. Too many holes. Pacu are vegetarian, something (thiaminase, or a parasite, or the absence of vital nutrients perhaps?) in the feeders should have him dead by now, and the kind of person who keeps a Pacu in a little tank like that isn't the kind of person to keep up on water changes. I'll bet they replace that fish every two or three years and just play it down.
i 100% agree with you...thoughts were exactly the same..

90% of the people on this board will never get to come close to testing any longevity tests..........4 months after they get a fish and the popularity wears off, they are on here selling it anyway.

All the loudest protesters, please share with the longest lived fish you have right now.............mine is a group of 7 clown loaches that are over 5 years old and 4 dovi that are 20 months old.

meh who cares either way the op was just posting a cool story he found but typical mfk...

My Raphael cat is four and my giant otto is three years old, for example.

None of you have any idea what a 40yr old pacu would look like.

So you can speak on behalf of everyone on this forum now?

There's a place in Gastonia, NC called WetPets. There is a thread about this place somewhere in the General Aquaria Discussion forum. They proudly have on display 2 Pacu that are 35+ years in age in a very large show tank - the exact gallonage escapes me. I have seen these fish with my own eyes as have many others on this board.

I pose a question to all of you.

If you bought a Pacu of this size (regardless of the age), would you place it in a 75 gallon tank? Or would you go larger? Perhaps smaller?

I have seen the thread i think, its a large glass tank in the middleish of the shop with a center overflow.

So again reading and comprehension has a way of sorting its self out.
METABOLITES --- read up you may learn something.

And all the same stuff can be said about that pet shop. Like they replace them weekly and the owner is a liar and all that other garbage. IMO

Also 35 doesn't equal 40. I think its 5 off.

You ever seen a human die of old age? The last 5yrs have major changes.
