So, after 2 days away at work i got back last night to find my Silver Aro (Cuddles) looking a little bit dead. When i tried to get him out he started swimming again so there was still a little fight there so let him be. There's not much i could do for him at 9 at night (2100 for all you military types) and all the other fish were swimming fine so let it be until morning.

Woke up and found Cuddles still in the same state but the RTC (Fathead) lying motionless on the surface. Not good. Cue swearing, quick removal of the bio filter box to make space and an awkward call to my girlfriend who bought Fathead to tell her he was now chilling nicely in the freezer. She was not amused. All my meds and tank/pond stuff are with my tank which unfortunatly is not in the same house as the pond so I did an emergency water change then went to the LFS for test kits and stresscoat. Ammonia test came back OK but had a large Nitrite Spike:WHOA: and Nitrate was high too - remeber this is just an hour after a water change:WHOA:. Put the stresscoat in and some seasoned Bog wood, but was too little too late as when i checked on cuddles 5 minutes later he was motionless so joined Fathead in the freezer. Now hoping for the best with the others, back at work tonight and tomorrow night so probably won't know until Tuesday if all is well. It looks like it hadn't finished cycling properly, maybe 30 goldfish wasn't enough!

On the plus side, don't need the Aro proof net over the top now.....:screwy:

Anyway, I've finally fitted a length of hose onto the pump now rather than the fountain coming out. I built too brick piers to place the bio filter box onto and provide the fish with another place to hide under. Had to hold the box floating above the piers while it filled and slowly sank onto them, means i've still not got around to drilling that box and fitting bulk heads and making the spray bar. Still needs work. It still looks ghetto but a bit less everytime now.

On to the permanent build. Cash pending, i'll be ordering the wood begining of next month. I've put tape up the wall now to see how high it'll come to and what's going to be in the way. The double socket in the corner will be replaced by a blanking plate and a gap will be left for the piping and the vent on the adjacent wall. Also added a couple of my very poor sketches to show off:)

Thanks mate, can't wait to break out the power saw!

Thought it was cycled but had a nice big nitrite spike since they've been in. I'm hoping that's all it is cause if it's not then i have no idea what's going on.

The fish are in the freezer as my bins won't get collected for another 2 weeks and i don't want them stinking the place out.

Whoop whoop! no more deaths for 2 days!:headbang2

I call it luck..............

Anywho, new pump arrived yesterday, not had time to set it up in the filter properly yet but hoping to this afternoon. Put it in the pool just to see if it worked.........it was like watching fish in a washing machine! Definately up to the job. Went and got some piping to connect to it, it said largest size was 38mm so got some of that. it was labelled 38mm anyway, but doesn't fit at all. It's larger than the small nozzel from the pump but smaller than the 38mm one and much much smaller than the 40mm bulk heads i have for the bio filter. Need adaptors:(
