It was an idea, not a definate. Want to see what else might be a good idea first. Something like solid kitchen work top is better as there's no gaps for spills to fall through.

In the states we use a product called boat varnish for bar tops. If you make a little ledge out of quarter round on the top of a sheet of ply wood you can dump it in and it is self leveling. One bar I did years ago the guy put a fan on it to dry it quicker over night and it dried with the ripples in it from the fan. We had to throw the top away cause it was next to impossible the sand out.

So if you want a cheap top I would saw some 2x4 in half then lay them out cut side up. use a dado bit or a drill bit and dowels in the sides. glue it all together with some clamps. and you have a top. seal it with boat varnish all the way around making the top thick and it will be pretty hard to break it.

Good idea, got the old sleepers that made the work bench in dad's old garage and can use the boat varnish plan to seal it all up. that should do the job nicely.

Nah, i phone her about dinner, that's far too important to wait for a reply on here!

8 weeks gives you plenty of time to work out the finer details of construction, filtration, etc and start getting the bits together;)

Ok, bits being cut and going together. First six bits ready for treating and once they're dry and in place i can measure up properly for the rest of it. Thought i'd get the awkward corner out of the way first, had to break out the hand tools for those cuts.
