Cheap plants, less nitrate! POTHOS

Thanks again F1 and thanks for reading the book I wrote you.lol I will take ur advice and do two 40% w/c weekly. Besides upgrading the pump on my 2250 I may also be purchasing a 2260 from a user here this weekend. If I have 7$ bucks left over I will invest in a pothos again and keep u guys posted. Will try the cloning method tho this time.

No problem at all, imo your filtration is adequate, once your tank stabilizes it will be fine as long as you keep up on wc and maintenance!

fed them 5lg shrimps yesterday and a few handfuls of NLS earlier in the week, so I thought id test before I did a 60gal wc, here are my results:

5-10ppm nitrates no need to change, just a simple 5 gal top off!

Plant is growing rapidly:

Great roots:

I love those numbers! That's absolutely incredible and I really hoped that the plants would be able to do that! Turns out nature did provide us with answers to everything :p

hey F1 if the plants dies and would it pollute the water?? my plants are dying.. from home depot 10 pot i only left with $2 worth..

I always pluck the yellow leaves, once their 50% yellow its best to discard them so the plant can focus energy on the existing green leaves!

Tips for a healthy plant:
-snip roots 1-2" before placing in tank
-pick an area of the tank where water flows
-if ambient light isn't abundant add a cheap cfl
-pick dead yellowing leaves every couple days
-if your tank has little to no nitrate it has no food
-make sure tank is cycled
-make sure leaves aren't submerged

Is there somthing wrong when you do a 50% WC and the nitrate levels are still the same??? For me after the Wc the nitrate somehow drops down which is weird.(after a couple days)
does that mean my sump is not fully cycled?

Is it possible to the pothos in a sump?

Kai

Nitrates should drop after a waterchange. If they are still the same after do a few smaller ones a few days after.. Maybe a 20% each day for 2-3 days and that'll knock em down. Are you vacuuming the gravel during water changes?

It might be that your water source is high in nitrate, run a test on ur water before replenishing ur tank and see if that contains nitrates
