Cheap plants, less nitrate! POTHOS

Is there somthing wrong when you do a 50% WC and the nitrate levels are still the same??? For me after the Wc the nitrate somehow drops down which is weird.(after a couple days)
does that mean my sump is not fully cycled?

Is it possible to the pothos in a sump?

Kai

Try cleaning out your filters, there may be trapped food or a rotting fish under decor or in substrate and as said above test your tap and vac your gravel!

They grow fine in sumps!

Nitrates should drop after a waterchange. If they are still the same after do a few smaller ones a few days after.. Maybe a 20% each day for 2-3 days and that'll knock em down. Are you vacuuming the gravel during water changes?

It might be that your water source is high in nitrate, run a test on ur water before replenishing ur tank and see if that contains nitrates

My tank is barebottom so there is really nothing to vac up since it all gets kicked up and the overflow eats it all. After I do a WC it goes from 20ppm(first day) then to 10ppm(3rd day) then 5.0ppm and stays stable there. then to zero(with another small WC) But I think its just cause of my bio-load..so many fish :) I forgot to add the fish to this perspective lol

Thanks guys, for the replys

F1 how much lighting do pothos require??

Thanks again,

I would worry about those nitrate levels at all! And they need just ambient light.. Nothing crazy. If t gets no light maybe add a cheap one to it but that's all

Mine are starting to grow some good roots. It seems like they grow faster in an aquarium with good lighting. In about the week I've gotten back In the hobby after a short break. mine sprouted roots that grows a millimeter every day.

20 or less nitrates is a joke.

I use a cheap 9 watt cfl with a 7$ Walmart dome fixture from the auto section, but they can grow on basic ambient light, as long as there's windows in the room it will be fine! But I've noticed with added light they grow better!

Yea I love the roots and I'm glad to hear they're growing!

I prefer 10-20ppm range, anything exceeding 50-60ppm is bad imo.

F1 your inbox is full, I'll post the following as I'm off to sleep, if you could reply by PM that'd be great...

I think the lima shovelnose is going to have to go...

It must be the culprit for eating all 10 of the danio's, 2 bristlenose plecs and a bala shark!

As such my 90g is currently stocked as follows:

6 Red hook silver dollars
1 lima shovelnose
1 bala shark
6 clown loach (2 died have no reason why)

1 bala shark is MIA
2 clown loach died
1 royal plec died
10 danios were eaten.

So what do you suggest I add/take away?

The silver dollars are interesting to watch, the lima shovelnose is quite boring and just hides. What could I get as the centrepiece?? You sure a single oscar wouldn't work till it gets too big?

Need some of your inspiration ;-)

I'll delete the above tomorrow and replace with a pothos pic

Sorry about my inbox should be fine and you only have 15min or so to modify your posts! But no worries.

Seems like the lsn is pretty aggressive atm, the danios were always gonna get picked off, but an Oscar will do the same even worse, a cool birchir may work well, I'm not the best with topicals, my forthcoming is Piranhas!
