Cheap plants, less nitrate! POTHOS

Just a quick note of failure types in philodendrons used in place of pothos.

"Pink Princess", "Prince of Orange" and "Autumn Maroon" philodendrons all get root rot and die when you try the them in place of pothos.

Two types of "Swiss Cheese" philodendron DO work well but still don't grow nearly as fast as "Golden" pothos, so dispite their attractiveness, I rate them as less useful.

Doing well :) right in front of my return but not directly in the current. I haven't checked the water in a couple weeks but the plant is thriving so it's definitely doing work :)

Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using MonsterAquariaNetwork App

Looks great and I'm sure it is helping reduce nitrates!!!!!

Thanks krusty for the insight, always good to know what works and what doesnt before attempting!!

I have been doing this for years on my 200 gallon tank, stock is 2 tiger oscars, one hemibagrus nemerus, one common plec, one CAE, 4 big clown loaches, and a big red severum and 10 hybrid grow outs in the sump. I need to top off about 5-10 gallons a week and do a monthly 25% water change and all levels are perfect. mostly pothos and one similar but Huge leaves a a thick stock. I basically started with a couple cuttings in the overflow which took over in a couple weeks. I have to periodically have to remove some roots as they can plug the pipe to the sump.

Update, been growing steadily and the the leaves are thick and healthy. Trimming it and hosing down the roots every month.

Any plants suggestions that wouldn't be toxic to turtles?

I would like to try this but you can be sure if a single leaf comes close to the water the turtles will eat it.

my juvy RES takes chomps out of the pothos leaf, never any harm or abnormalities!

Then I shall try this filtration technique! :D

F1, I told you this sticky/w thread additions are too long. Lol.
not reading the whole thing to find out: What if a tank with pothos needs salt @1 Tablespoon per 10 galls?? does it kill the plant...damage roots.. does it matter if plant roots are younger vs well established?
:-)
