update, pH started to crash my KH is down to 4 and ph is down to i think 6.8-7.0 that's down from 7.6 so i am looking at about 19ppm of co2, a little concerned about even lower pH 2 night and too high co2 i plugged in my air stone to be on opposite of my lighting, i have a digital power strip with timer and it has on & off plugs. when 1 set is on the other is off, and when 1st set turns off the 2nd set turns on, . i m gonna have to watch it but i think that the 2 1.4 liter bottles will be great! i also realized i dbled up on ferts when i made last mix, i got distracted when taking pics.

Sounds great. Honestly you are doing it all right. That much of a PH drop should not be too much of a problem. Nothing wrong with extra ferts!

Hey fish doooods,

I had a DIY CO2 setup like this going on my 65 gal. about 5 years ago. I ran it with 2 3-liter bottles and had the bubbles go into the intake of a sponge filter/powerhead and this worked great.

I noticed that you used silicone to attach the hose to your bottle caps. Have you ever tried using mini bulkheads? I got mine at a hobby shop that catered to model airplane hobbyists. They worked perfectly.

Sadly, my tank was invaded by some freaky form of algae that formed in sheets all over everything and no matter what I did I couldn't get rid of it. It was later suggested to me that my lamps (3 T5 5500K) probably needed replacing and because of this, this "sheet" algae was able to gain a foothold. I'm not 100% sure this was the cause, but I feel maybe others may gain some knowledge from this and/or comment on it for the benefit of all.

I've just now been able to get over the devastation to my otherwise beautiful tank and set up the tank again. I'm not running CO2 at the moment, but have planted it and gotten it off the ground. Discover these forums and reading about all of the fine hobbyists out there have served as a catalyst to drive me onward and into the obsession once again.

Hooorah!!

I have thought about taking a look @ a LHS but just haven't gotten down there even tho they are just 5 min away! They have it all, rc cars, planes & helis & much much more & I have woundered about using an rc gas tank & hoses but this didn't involve much $, Jus yeast a coupple check valves cheapest bag sugar I could find &some air hose. I has the silisone & glue, so far I like the glue better but it dosent seem to dry as quick so I have to give it 3-4 days b4 I put any water or pressure near it. Some day I will get down to my LHS I would really like a better quick disconect. & pulling on hoses seems to threaten the silicone seals

Hey i am correctly using a fine bubbler air stone that seems to be working great and cheap, i am finding the el cheapo throw away ones are working better than the sand or ceramic one that is 5x more expensive, i can go buy a "ladder" for about $16 and i know they are supposed to diffuse the most and i have seen the glass tube kind with swirl tube inside & some sort of bubbler on top & then there is the power head version which i don't want to do. what are you guys running? if i recall Kjfan1 is using a ladder kind. any other inputs?

Ladder works great. Powerhead like one is what I want to upgrade to. Looks amazing. Not too much money either. Looks more efficient and hideable.

looks like a power head & ladder are just about the same price, I m gonna keep on with the fine airstone as a difuser, the el cheapo $4 for 6 throw away seem to giveme smaller bubbles & by the time they reach the surfave they are almost gone.
