So I made the DIY overflow as pictured in this thread but I am getting that gurgling bruping noise. I've tried to cap the vent with a cap with small holes like i have on my Durso on another tank. That quieted it down some but you can still hear it gurgling and you can see air bubbles thru the intake line.

Not sure how to fix it. The joints are glued and should be air tight and the overflow intake is at the bottom of the tank so I dont know how its gettin bubbles. I sucked all the air out using the 1 way air valve as shown in the pics as well.

Any ideas?

soggysandwich i have a question for you. how do you crate those diagrams/drawings?

i was thinking about modifing it so it will have a large pvc pipe cut in a half with an eggcrate on top of it to prevent any animles getting sucked in, and at each end of the surface skimmer the over flow, so i was thinking about making 2-3 u tubes....

i am trying to draw it, but i don't have any good drawing skills that's why i was wondering what program you use to skatch those drawings.

It's a type of filtration. Do a quick search on here and you'll see tons of them and how they work:)

Im thinking not enough flow. The pump may be too small and slowing the flow down and then speeding it back up again or even slowly rising and falling in there. If you have a big pump, check to make sure there isnt anything slowing it down like alot of 90 degree bends or kinks.

Jawbone and Chompers - You were experimenting with a better solution for the overflow. I didn't read a final outcome and was hoping that you had found a solution. I tried building the overflow and have had limited success. Using 3/4 inch pvc piping I got very slow output. I would like to use it to do auto water changes using a drip syatem, but it seemed to be getting a lot of air in the pipes but I didn't know how to prove this. I did use the one way valve at the top and it didn't seem to help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am getting tired of doing manual changes to twenty plus tanks. Thanks.

You could use a small powerhead pump with a ventue on it to get all of the air out of the pipe. I don't know but you could mabe leave the powerhead always hooked up to get rid of any air that may end up in the pipe.:headbang2
