ok, i've got a problem. i made one of these out of 1" pipe, it looks just like the one in the first pic, except that i had to use the 90* elbow at the intake on the tee so i could hook up my sump. the inner U bend is higher than the outer one and it is overflowing into the sump, there is about a 2" difference in hieght between the inside and outside U bends. my problem is that the overflow cannot keep up with my QU2200 pump @ 3.5ft head and it will not restart when i unplug the pump. i have my pump throttled back about 25% to keep it from overrunning the overflow. wtfup?

That has all been already answered in this thread. Go back and read it from the beginning. You will learn a lot.

the inner u bend has to be LOWER than the outer U bend. I agree with Chompers advice. Reread the thread. When i was designing my wet dry and overflow, i must of read this thread at least 5 times. Great reading as well

well, it seems to be running somewhat smoothly now. i'll try fixing it though so that the U inside the tank is lower. it does seems finicky though, if i move the overflow hose around in the sump, it will suddenly stop flowing by about 50% and then regain that after a few seconds.

You've got the T set up wrong, you need an elbow where the T is (elbow facing up), then the T just above the elbow with the middle of the T draining to the sump.

this day I edited my immitated design coz it is not operational:( ,I also took Volenti's advice,at first I put a hole on the third elbow but it always loose its continuity:irked: so decided to cut another pipe and replaced that punched pipe.....amazingly it worked so great!!!:WHOA: :WHOA: I was overwhelmed to see it work..I've tested it many times and it doesn't loose its prime,if the pump stop's obviously it also stops the flow but once the pump is turned on it will already flow again:ROFL:
